The fact that they’re not scared to have their faces recorded says everything you need to know about the current law & order in our country…

When i got robbed in London inside a restaurant, the police refused to look at the CCTV footage let alone do anything despite the manager telling them they had it on CCTV. Only told us to call the non-emergency line and get a crime reference number to claim insurance. So disgusting.

In 1964 l had my bike stolen from outside Walsall Baths, l was 14 and had a paper round to pay for it! Amazingly the following evening my Dad was sat in the pub when a man walked in trying to sell a blue Viking racing bike. My Dad went outside to view the bike, recognised it and being ex-Army 'APREHENDED' the culprit. Our local Bobby arrived asked about thief's bloodied face to be told he tried to run away. Policeman handcuffed chumy and took him and my bike (evidence) to the Police Station Chumy got 18 month, l've still got the cutting reporting that he'd had 49 other convictions for petty theft. My Dad was congratulated for his quick thinking and actions and l got my bike back!
Different times eg?

If the police aren't interested in looking at footage of a crime in the act, then it makes you wonder what the growing number of public surveillance cameras are used for.

I am disgusted by the way police treat bike theft. If they refuse to do their job, they are just as bad as the bike thieves. If the bike owner grabbed a bike thief by the arm, the bike owner would probably be arrested for assault.

They know the police won't do anything.

In the olden days, there was something called "hue and cry" .... Someone shouted "stop thief" and everyone piled on. The good old days.

Great UK❤

In germany my bike was stolen, 2 nights later i found a lonley bike in a park. I brought it to the police, police told me "if there is no one coming for this bike the next 6 months, you can come and get it to make it your own".
6 months later i went to police again. Result:
No one has come for the bike, but there was no bike left. It has gone missing (or stolen) from the police... So the officers only lift their shoulders and saying "ooops, this is very sad and a shame for us. Good bye...👋"

So it goes in germany...😵🤛👮

*Police:* "So you're saying your £3000 E-bike got stolen from in front of your house by unmasked bandits in broad daylight?"
*Also Police:* "Sorry, to hear that... but can you confirm if this is your Facebook post disparaging His Majesty's police force & the crime rate on His Majesty's fine streets?"

Meanwhile in the Cotswolds, my son rode to the gym, got there, realised he’d forgot his bike lock, so he left it propped up against a railing outside the gym and hoped for the best. When he got out, thought it had been stolen as he’d feared. After scanning up and down he found a guy stood by it who told him he was the owner of a local bike shop. He’s seen my son search for something in despair, leave the bike and head inside the gym, and taken it upon himself to bring the bike in to his shop for safekeeping. He’d also taken the liberty of pumping up the tyres and tuning up the brakes.

Edit: some interesting responses in the comments. Some people are very cynical which makes me sad. Anyway, little update to answer some comments:

The guy actually had left a note taped to the railing instructing my son to come in to the shop to retrieve his bike but my son missed it which is why the guy brought it back out.

My son is autistic and was too overwhelmed to think rationally when he discovered he didn’t have his lock.

Our boys were sharing a lock due to our other son (who has adhd) losing the keys for his a couple of days earlier.

We returned to the bike shop which is next door to the gym and brought the guy a thank you card and a ton of biscuits. He gave my son a new lock.

He runs a bike project for disadvantaged youths to volunteer in the shop for a couple of hours and earn a free bike.
They have a couple of locations, one of the biggest is in Stroud. Another in Cirencester and one somewhere else can’t remember. (Not my towns so not sure where .You can google it if you’re interested.) Though he informs me that since they’re independent, they have been hit by cost of living and my not be able to keep all locations open.

His son was in the shop and is the same age as my youngest. They vaguely know each other from the bus to school. Then we randomly saw him again when we went out bowling and he came up to say hi to my son.

He said any time their bikes need a tune up they can bring them in and he’ll do it for free.
He checked their helmets were fitted correctly and fixed the saddle light on my youngest’s bike. He just seems like a nice bloke.

Police often ignore small crimes, it isn't right. That is why so many stores suffer repeat shoplifters.
Police often ignore small robberies if committed by minors, often on advice of the prosecutor who is basically weighing cost of prosecution + court time vs value of object stolen.
But that logic just encourages more crime.

In 1974 my in laws had a radio stolen. The cops dusted for fingerprints, found the radio, and brought the radio 100 miles to their new home. True.

Last year the shop at the top of my street was burgled twice, the police did nothing. Then there were 2 armed robberies on the same shop, the police turned up after the second, took a statement and did nothing, the man's face was captured on camera, and you could see where he had touched the counter.
Yet nothing was done.

I live in Lancashire.

Police will actually go out of their way to stop you from preventing this kind of stuff, i boobie trapped my bike before and the scumbag who tried to steal it got quite badly hurt.

The police then said i could be charged for deliberately setting up a trap that could harm others.

I've had 6 bikes stolen in 5 years as i live on the canal, that was my 7th bike. This is the state of the UK.

I've had my bike stolen in the past, was my pride and joy, the best BMX I've ever had.

Saw someone trying to nick an ebike years later, perfect opportunity put my kickboxing training to the test.

That’s why you lock the front wheel to the frame AND the rack or something as sturdy/stable as it.
It’ll be harder to get away if the bike won’t move - unless they have an accomplice with a pickup truck, and throw it in the back
