if you look for to sew leather this machine is very good for to sew machine. This Singer sewing machine was made in 1959 EXCELLENT POWERFUL VINTAGE SINGER SEWING MACHINE ALL ORIGINAL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WONDERFUL LONG-LASTING METAL GEARS MODEL 237 SERIAL # MB887090 BEAUTIFUL BEIGE AND TAN COLORS The cords and speed control are in excellent condition too. VERY SIMPLE AND EASY TO OPERATE One lever to slide for how wide you want the stitch (if you want zig-zag) and then One lever to slide for how long you want the stitch ... (that's it...step on the foot pedal and watch the beautiful stitches! EASY TO THREAD and Easy to insert the bobbin...do it with the head up or tip the head back if that is easier for you the first few times you do it. BOTH ZIG-ZAG and STRAIGHT STITCHES You can move the needle to left or right of center when needed, by sliding the little lever on the front (marked L-C-R) Bobbins and needles that fit this machine are sold at Wal-Mart and other sewing goods stores. IT MAKES PERFECT STITCHES ON BOTH HEAVY AND LIGHTWEIGHT FABRICS Using a size 18 needle and regular thread it made beautiful stitches: 7 Layers of Heavy Work Jean Denim Using a size 18 Heavy Duty Needle and Heavy Upholstry Thread it Sewed With Beautiful Stitches: 10 Layers of Canvas 8 Layers of Heavy Upholstery Using Size 18 Leather Needle and Heavy White Upholstery Thread it Made Perfect Stitches Sewing on the Heavy Leather Belt .On one of the samples I put red thread on the top of the machine and white thread on the bobbin. I rolled and pinned back the fabric so that you can see the perfect stitches that it makes on both the upper and under side of the fabric.) This Machine Has a Good Working Light. THIS IS A FUN EASY BEAUTIFUL MACHINE TO WORK WITH. AND IT DOES BEAUTIFUL WORK! This Singer Model 237 is a wonderful vintage Singer with metal parts construction that does make it heavier ,BUT the wonderful trade off to that is that it is indestructible in normal use. It will just go on and on doing the same beautiful stitches year after year.

Turn the hand wheel to the front only, when threaded. Sew sample stitches on two layers of fabric. The top center tensioner is for bobbin winding, not for sewing.

I have this machine. Took it to a class after getting it serviced and it turns out... I have NO idea how to use this machine properly. The feed dogs would noy feed the fabric through and I have no idea why
