I still have this. It was a college graduation present 1968 . It came with a wood cabinet with legs. The bobbin maker froze on top so I took apart the top plate as you showed in your video . Thank you .

I bought this model when I was in college. Glad I hung on to it. I just cleaned & oiled it today and it's working smoothly. My Brother cx155 just seized up, so I prepped the 237 for a backup machine. Thanks for the video.

My mom serviced mine maybe six years back after I had it sitting in my storage unit in my last apartment, I finally got the hang of it and have it out, and suspect the belt looks dry? Tried to clean out some lint and threads where I could easily reach but Im thinking it needs a clean and oiling. So ty for this.

I just watched two of your informative & helpful videos to clean & oil my new (used) singer fashion mate model 237. I notices a bar, it runs horizontal on the upper underpart. I am not sure what its for exactly and if it needs adjusting. I didn’t see it in your machine on video. I want to attach a photo but I didn’t see where I could do that. Perhaps I can watch more of your videos & read up to figure it out. Thank you for your dedication to educate us!! N

Mr Meredith… I have a 237 … tension problems, breaking needles, was told by repairman it COULD BE GEAR NEEDS TO BE TIGHTENED OR COULD BE NEW GEAR… as a retiree, I have no “ COULD BE $$”… so do you have any helpful tips I might locate gear on the machine and try tightening it etc… Any help appreciated….thank you much😁👍🏻‼️

I have a Singer Fashion Mate 257. My tension needs cleaning. The videos I have found says there is a screw on the end of the tension knob. Mine does not have a screw there. I need to take that off but do not know how.

Help needed greatly I have a Nikki 575F a machine and you know how it has two tiles on the side one you release whenever you want to thread the Bobben and one that’s just intact all the time when I turn this figure wheel it slips so the needle and does not go up and down consistently it slips anyway if you get a moment please post a way to reach you other than YouTube thank you very much

I'm having an issue with this machine where the bobbin hook in the bottom is not picking up the top thread. Any chance you've covered this? I don't see it in any of your videos. Thank you!

Hi John Meredith;

The feed dogs on the Singer 237 rise and lower but they do not move the material forward. I don't have any experience, but I am gaining it fast. I bought my first machine, a Morse, a week ago. I bought the 1968 Singer 237 four days ago. The hook picks the thread correctly (as you described below). I did have initial tension error but that has been resolved.

The other issue is the front plastic plate with the writing and diagram. My issue (again lack of experience), is the lock washer that is on a plastic nib (?) on the inside of the machine. Which way should the washer face? I am guessing that the bent tines should be contacting the inside of the front.

I picked one of these up at a thrift store, it worked for a bit then jammed. In doing so broke the needle, so I bought needles...now it won't stitch a thing. I'm seeing a money pit. Any suggestions ?
