Man accused of beating Massachusetts prison guard appears in court

Roy Booth Jr. is accused of hitting guard Matthew Tidman with a metal bar, seriously injuring him.

I never knew this was who did it. He was the guy who sold the Herald on the corner of Melnea Cass and Mass Ave for years. I used to buy the paper from him and even let him keep the change (usually gave a 5-20 bill), until one day he came to my vehicle and I said no thank you for the paper. He then asked if I could give him any money which I had no cash on me at the time and unprovoked he whipped a lighter into my window that was open a little to speak at the time. The lighter hit my passenger window so hard it left a chip mark. The light turned green and I went. He was always a polite quiet man up until that point. Any time after when I would drive by I would see him behaving irrational and talking to himself.

Tidman was very aggressive and disrespectful to inmates. This is what happens unfortunately. I was in Shirley Medium when this happened. And I knew this guy in the video. He was in F block if I remember right.
