Are High Deductible Health Insurance Plans a Better Choice?

Back in the good ole days, you could find plans with low deductibles and low maximum out of pockets, but since Obamacare, those days are behind us. In this video I discuss whether it makes more sense for people to go with higher deductible plan options to save monthly premium, rather than paying much more monthly for a lower deductible.

I am a licensed insurance broker, and a district partner for my company Healthcare Solutions Team. I am here to help ensure people make the best decision for their health insurance in their state. I am licensed in the following states currently:

Really good explanation and breakdown of the difference between the actual costs (per pay check) and the potential liability (deductible and coinsurance). A lot of people look at the low deductible plan and think that's the way to go but then at the end of the year they've only utilized the plan a few times and have had all of that money taken out of their paycheck that could have gone into their pockets or a health savings account.

So you have to pay a deductible and max out of pocket. Insurance is the biggest scam ever

I like to choose the lowest cost hdhp which has the highest deductible option that my company offers. I then use the premium savings to max out my HSA which covers the max OOP amount if I do hit it that year. If not, then just rolls over to next year.

There should be a bridge to the next year if you become seriously ill in December and hit your max oop but still need to treated the next year for the same condition, e.g. January.

Thank you for this video Joe, truly appreciated. At @5:42 mark you mentioned "add supplements" by this, would you be referring to GAP health insurance? If so, can you factor that into your next videos. It will help a lot. Thank you again for these

I'm on an individual Kaiser plan paying $738 a month. I have been to the doctor 2 times on telehealth. I don't want to pay this. I want a $10, 000 max plan or a high deductible plan with Kaiser. They seemed confused by this.

We live in Indiana as federal Empolyee, we had been with BSBC for more than 20 years. Only this year, heard about HSA.. I was thinking of switching to GEHA HDP just to benefit of the HSA. Their reviews are overwhelmingly terrible. I really feel it's good to benefit of HSA. The only plans with high deductible that has the HSA are Aetna, GEHA and MHBP. Any suggestions? Thank you so much

It's sad where I work my health insurance that I always pick came with a co pay per doctor visit. Which is usually 25.00 dollars. The health insurance giant got greedy as usually. I went from paying about 241.00 every other week, now if I get that same health now it's going to cost 500.00 dollars every other week. That's health insurance only. I can't afford that. Now I'm forced to take the health insurance that doesn't come with a co pay and a higher deductible.

Let’s be honest, If your concentrating on just the out of pocket maximum for instance a family, Every individual person in the family needs to meet the deductible and out of pocket maximum?

Shouldnt need heath insurance. Healthcare should be free. Imagine losing your job and then getting cancer and then not being able to pay to stay alive. Looking at stuff like that shows me that we have a while to go before we have a true civilization.
