I have a Craftsman 10" table saw that my father bought the week I was born in 1947. I have made several upgrades and keep it tuned up. It makes perfect cuts and I make it safe with a fixed splitter. I would not trade it for any saw as I know this one and what it can do. Like your weekly show and all of your you tube channel. Keep up the great work.

I have the 12" Metabo. Even though I had to initially tune in the 90 degree square cut, since then it has been a flawless excellent saw at a DIY price. I.am sponsored by no one to make these comments.

Thank you

I must say, Mrs. 731 doesn't look any older than 35ish. I was very surprised when you said you were going to be 44. God has been good to you.
I'm stocking up on tools in hopes that I'll be setting up a shop in the next year or so, (a long story), and have a decent collection of some good tools through your reviews and a few others. Still need a few more (table saw, band saw, drill press, scroll saw...)
I understand there's 2 different motors (power rating) with the DWS779. Do you know about this? And what's the difference between the 779 & 780? I bought an Admiral, 12" dual bevel, sliding, miter saw from HFT and only used it once to make sure it worked. It seems good. I bought it when I had less money. I don't know what to look out for but it will have to do until I get going.
Used to have a radial arm saw back in the day and loved it, (I'm 63, & been out of it for quite a while).
They make blade stabilizers that I used on my Forrester blades, of course you loose some depth of cut and have to realign center of cut. Never heard of CMT blades. I bought the 36 & 80 DeWalt blade set on sale for $39, less than half the price of one Forrester blade I bought back then. Probably will show in the cuts.

The most common reason people purchase 12" saws is for the extra cutting depth to handle large crown moldings, etc. Obviously the deeper the cut the more pronounced any blade deflection will show. Others use a 12" saw for thicker stock, 4"x4"'s, large live edge pieces that need cut to length etc. In either case larger blades need to carry a thicker kerf to maintain stability against deflection. The thicker blade also effectively acts as a heat sink quickly conducting heat away from the edge to avoid warping the blade and dulling the carbide teeth as heat is carbide's greatest enemy. Many 12" saws come with an OEM inexpensive thin kerf blade to keep down costs. The very best thing you can do if you purchase a 12" miter saw is buy a premium full kerf blade. Assuming you've purchased a good saw like a Makita, Bosch, DeWalt, etc. you should have no trouble with accurate, clean cuts if it's set up properly.

I agree, the miter saw is more important than the band saw. Anyone should buy one first. As for which one is best, the DeWalt is a tried and true workhorse and great saw, but I have been watching videos on the top of the line saws and I would not go with the Ridgid. Too much deflection to be accurate for furniture etc. Good for framing though. Best of the Best is the new Makita 12" battery powered. Watch Finish Carpentry. But if you can afford that, then go all the way up to the Festool Kapex. Just my opinion.

In your opinion and others what are the pro and cons of a radial arm saw and a compound miter saw. What are the main differences. Thanks
