I'm so moved about your impressions of the movie. Thanks to Disney/Pixar for sharing in a such good and positive way the traditions of Mexican culture. And so grateful that you even think about celebrate "Día de Muertos" in your family, that is so great, you guys are amazing and open minded to other cultures, of course from me (and I'm sure for most people in México) you are really welcome to the Mexican culture and country. Have and amazing and a beautiful Thanksgiving!

My favorite scene was Imelda & Ernesto performing "Llorona" near the end.

I agree, great movie. Dante is a breed of hairless dog called "Xoloitzcuintle" originally from Mexico. The aztecs had them as pets in their homes. They were considered as the guardians and the guides to "the other side". When someone died he was buried with his dog to guide and protect him. Currently, children in Mexico are affectionately called "escuincles" in allusion to those dogs. As a matter of fact Pixair has one as a pet. If you remember in the movie Miguel says to Dante "you always knew that he was my real great great grandfather". The orange flowers are called "Cempazúchitl" or "Flower of the death", it´s a seasonal flower; it is only harvested in october and november for this celebration. You can see a lot of them during this days in Mexico. The flower is very aromatic (and very cheap) and since ancient times was related to the connection to the "other world".

Of course it's ok for you to celebrate Día de Muertos! You absolutely got the spirit of it. I strongly suggest to bring pictures of your passed loved ones to the table or living room, and play some of the music they liked (marigold flowers optional). Un abrazo desde Ciudad de México.

Of course it’s alright, family is universal, celebrate, cherish and remember your loved ones that have passed away. Love from Mexico from a Salt Lake City born Mexican girl

Great review!
About the celebration topic, I believe traditions shouldn't be static or limited to one particular group, but they should be shared by those who feel a connection with them and with what they represent: at the end, they are all about meaning, and if you found meaning in Día de los Muertos, then I don't see any reason why you shouldn't celebrate as well, traditions enrich our lives no matter where they come from.

Yes guys, I am from Mexico, you can celebrate Día de Muertos, we are a very friendly country and we feel honored when other people appreciate our culture and well, after all it's a tradition to remember the ones that are not with us anymore and family gathers to spend some time together, talking, laughing and specially eating! Haha
You can even have an "altar" with the pictures of your loved ones that already parted and their favourite food, candies/desserts, drinks, add some candles and some decorations, remember to light a candle for every soul you wish to remember, by the way glad you enjoyed the movie!

I have to say, thank you!!! Pixar and Disney, for making it possible for the world to know the true meaning of the celebration of the "Day of the Dead", which has no terrifying meaning, if not, it is a celebration of love for loved ones and that they left this life, but we keep remembering with love.
