I installed Arch Linux with Xfce4 desktop & all my software (and then some) on this machine. It was to function as a test machine. Then I met the BSD's & the PC set idle for a little over 90 days. Powered up, ran updates & rebooted. Had absolutely no issues. The update ran on all installed software including the kernel, pacman & the headers.
I never doubted the stability of Arch and now I never will. I will continue to share the true word of Arch Linux.
If you have friends, neighbors, relatives that say Arch is not stable and subject to breakage. Please please please point them to this video.

Arch on my friends!

Thanks for watching!!!

I look after a few retirement communities IT and Tech needs. Have been successful in moving those who need to away from Windows and on to Linux but draw the line at Arch based because of the extra work in fixing all the constant breakages. I recommend an Ubuntu base with a gnome hat which seems to work well. Like you I've been trying FreeBSD and have a test machine I use every day with Ghost / Mate. So far it's super stable and can do anything linux can do as well as tweaked to look right up to date. Ghost also reports a bit more secure using Lynis than even Debian does. Arch is a lot of fun if you have the time to fiddle with it. Cheers from Australia Dennis, appreciate you rwell researched movies.

The LTS version doesn't break as easy as Rolling Release version.
I remember that I when upgraded my Arch Linux 32 Rolling Release version, after the reboot the system broke.
When I installed the LTS version doesn't break anymore.

The other day I did an update on Arch and it asked me if I wanted to update Jack to Jack2. Naturally I said yes. After a restart I found I had no sound. After fiddling with it for about 5 minutes I figured out my problem . . .

If I want sound I need to turn on the speakers. 🤦

And to think, I have wasted all this time updating every day! Damn! I could have slept in and gotten my beauty rest. No wonder I feel tired all the time! :-P

Arch Linux does get FUSSY after like 2 weeks of not updating.
Sure it doesn't fully break (almost fully, in my experience it was a sjngle mirror that was causing all of the issues I had updating after not using my PC for awhile...))
But it's just... Update every day if you can.
