Looks lovely! I am getting inspired to get back to making soap. Haven't made any in about 2 years...Also, really like the frozen ice cube method, I think it's the easiest when working with fresh milk. I did this with frozen half and half cubes and worked so well. Cheers!

You can use pretty much any type of milk you like! I've used almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk, and even buttermilk - although I would highly recommend diluting the buttermilk. :)

That is a very loooong mold! The soap looks great! I love goat's milk soaps as well.If I have time this weekend I am going to try my hand at a yogurt soap, hoping it will be even more creamy than the goat's milk.

Great tutorial. Smart looking soap bars. That mold is huge. Thanks for sharing

I would think there would have to be some type of damage, but I really don't know what extent. All I know is that the fresh goat's milk soap is FANTASTIC on your skin!

Yes, I do. Although, you have to be sure to start stirring right away or you will get clumps of burnt milk in the bottom. I've started pouring the lye/milk solution through a stainless steel sieve as well. You have to work it with a spatula a bit to get it to go through. :)

Goats milk soap definitely my favorite too. I love your idea of using almond fragrance sounds delicious, x Linda

Thank you for sharing your method on how to add the lye to the goat's milk! I've been freezing my milks and adding the lye in a little bit at a time which I guess is why they've been burning on me :( Next milk soap, I'm going to have to try your method!! The soap turned out lovely at the end :)

You are right, I sure feel the difference as well. I also like a ALMOST castile, meaning about 90 percent olive and the rest in castor, with goatsmilk, honey and oatflour... Add a little rosewood and lavendar essential oil and I am in soap heaven!! :-)

Hi Kim - Insulation depends on the weather, the ingredients, and how large the batch is. I rarely need to insulate in the summer. The milk soaps tend to heat up plenty as well. Add honey or any other sugared substance and it's going to heat up on its own. In the winter, I always place my mold between a couple layers of bath towels. If your soap isn't starting to gel 30 mins after you pour, add more insulation.

I was advised by another soapmaker to boil the milk for about 30 seconds before freezing it to help prevent white spots in the soap, so I've started doing that. It's not fully pasteurized, but cooked just a bit.

@greatcakesoap - I buy the raw honeycomb for the honey Amy. I melt it down and filter it myself. I get propolis and royal jelly from the apiary as well to put in my soap. The couple that own the apiary are so awesome...they actually sing to their bees lol Mike : )

I adore your old-timey music. Reminds me of Charlie Chaplin or something. Too cool.

Love that Amy! I make my Goat's Milk soap the same way. I love them they are so creamy and good for the skin! I make the same kind of drive to get my organic raw honeycomb from an amazing apiary here in Canada. MMMM Almond I bet that smells so good. Your mold is crazy long I love it! Mike :)

Have you tried using part water and part milk for the lye, then mixing the oils with the lye water, and when the mixture comes to trace, then add additional goat milk, so that less of it gets reacted with the lye and more of the milk is intact?

Absolutely! Cows milk, coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, buttermilk, kefir, even breast milk...

I don't see why you couldn't CPOP goat's milk. Mine usually gels anyway, so what's the difference? Yes, you can dump the lye and it works just fine. Just be sure to stir right away, and I've also started working the lye solution through a fine sieve with a silicone spatula as I add it to the oils. I usually end up with some leftover solids that I just toss, but the soap seems to turn out much smoother. Best wishes, Angela!
