BTW for anyone who thinks that any ole Slipknot will do, it won't. To test and make sure that you Slipknot is correct is, if you pull on the loop, it should get larger by drawing from the length of yarn that is attached to the skein, and not from the free end.

You don’t cast on in crocheting. I suppose you can call it casting on in tunesian crochet, but I’ve never heard it referred to as casting on in my 45+ years of crocheting.
