Given all that we are seeing happen in the world right now, we’re hearing a lot about the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion (or EDI). As someone who has been teaching EDI concepts for almost two decades now, I know first-hand how vital each of these concepts are in creating more accepting, inclusive workplaces and societies where everyone feels comfortable living as their authentic self.

I also know that the unique concepts of equity, inclusion, and diversity can be tricky to describe and that far too often we are presented with generalized definitions that fail to capture the nuances of and differences between these distinctive principles.

In this #RituTalks video, I explain the difference between equity, diversity, and inclusion and share which of the three I think is most important for creating social change.

You can preach, push this in your own company, in your own cult, but not to other people.

Your concise opening with definitions is succinct and of integral value.
These are our points of departure.

It is overdue, but, at least established, now, and taken very seriously by this whole Region.

This is the smartest definition I got on this subject. Very clear. Straight to point and well delivered. Great job

I can't entirely agree. The most important is inclusion. I say this so firmly because you must first apply this concept or quality to yourself. That means once you have become and accepted your authentic self and are connected well to yourself, you are so excited to meet others and their authentic self. Their differences are exciting to you. It's a way of being that brings us together. It has to become a part of you, not just an idea. Moving these concepts into reality, you will have equity and a passion for equity for all when you have embodied and embraced inclusion for your own well-being.

I feel that inclusion is the easiest to change because it's much more behavioral

1.Equality over Equity.
2.Meritocracy not Inclusion which is Exclusive by design.
3.Color Blindness not diversity. Diversity in practice divides on applied bias.

The narrative of D.E.I. assumes facts not in evidence, that minorities are victims of systemic discrimination, and that simply isn’t true.

Diversity is about recognition of minority groups based upon arbitrary (racist or discriminatory) markers, AND CATEGORIZING INDIVIDUALS INTO GROUPS BASED UPON IDENTITY RATHER THAN MERIT.

Equity is about equality of outcomes rather than equality of opportunities. In other words, it is NOT merit based. It is identity based, and this is NOT fair. It seeks to distribute favourable outcomes based upon identity, rather than merit, and this a disastrous recipe for failure.

Inclusion is about using discriminatory practices to EXCLUDE individuals from participation based upon merit or competence, and to INCLUDE individuals based upon identity in spite of lack of merit or competence, AND THIS IS PREJUDICIAL AND DISCRIMINATORY.

D.E.I. in a nutshell.

Hi @RituBhasin, is it possible for the equity to change? You said that it means recognizing that not everyone starts from the same place, given historical legacies of discrimination. In theory, that history for every diverse group of people will always be there, so is it possible to believe that there will always a difference in the "starting line"? If it is possible to get everyone to the same starting line, how can that happen? Thanks.

KSA or DIE.
If you’re a government worker or a veteran that has applied for a government job your qualifications are based upon KSA = Knowledge, Skills, Ability.
DIE = Diversity, Inclusion, Equity (Equity is not the same as Equality) does nothing to prove an individual’s Knowledge, Skills and Ability to do the job.
If a company feels compelled to add a DIE hiring manager or change their company logo to rainbow colors to pander to the LGBTQ group or DIE group, it’s perceived as patronizing and thus that company may have had prior discriminatory hiring practices.
Bottom line…any public or private company that discriminates against a person’s race, religion, sexual orientation, political affiliation, economic status, veteran status or disability is in violation of State and Federal employment laws. KSA or DIE. Teach your children well.

“The difference between equity, inclusion, and diversity” ”I explain the difference between equity, diversity, and inclusion ” ”what are the differences between these three concepts” FYI Use between when you're mentioning 2 items. When you’re mentioning 3 or more items, the proper word to use is among, not between. These would be more correct: “The differences among equity, inclusion, and diversity” ”I explain the differences among equity, diversity, and inclusion” ”what are the differences among these three concepts”
