For me it’s hard to meet a kid and think they’ll end up bad. I teach fifth grade. My kids are still little and love things like stickers and good notes to their parents. However, there was this little boy I saw grow from preK. His name was Marcos. It took two adults to pull him out of his car EVERY morning. His parents refused any intervention by professionals for his whole elementary years. Everyone knew who he was and tried to help whoever was his teacher each year. I dreaded the time he would eventually walk into my class. Thankfully, that class was so large I didn’t have to teach him. His teacher was a first year, sweet young girl. He messed her up. He was terribly mean to everyone. He also had the longest, loudest tantrums I’ve ever witnessed. He’s the only kid in my 25 year career who I’m CERTAIN will end up dead, in jail, or dead in jail. I pray for him and his victims every day.
