I wouldn't join any branch of service today if I was a young guy again. I don't regret my time in service as it allowed me to learn a lot of things about myself I don't know I'd have learned any other way but with our politician's tendency to want 'forever' wars now and getting more and more social tinkering from the top along with the general lack of support I'd never advise a man to join up any more.

Marine Corps has always been built around the infantry battalion. But the arty, armor, air, and log that comes with a MAGTF is what made them able to punch outside their weight. Hopefully this over correction doesn’t cost Marines their lives and the Corps its purpose in the age of Great Power conflict.

Join infantry, recon, sigint, and cyber.

The corps are restructoring to be a lightweight island warfare org. They are trying to focus on the ability to shut down an enemy's navy. They also have a lot of dumbass dinosaur ass staff and O who need to retire and let the young bucks take their job.

Also scout snipers are just recon marines now

Big reason I enlisted Navy SWCC. Army, shit, Marines, complete restoration from inside out and the Air Force, nothing really there for “combat” related jobs.

This happened while i was in the Marine Corps as a combat engineer. Half of my job (the part that my platoon specialized in) was well gone.

Unpopular opinion, but the marines shouldn’t be a large ground force like the army. It works best as a light/amphibious mechanized infantry. They should maintain light armor and artillery.

BUT any significant armor and artillery force should be maintained by the army. Since that level of large scale warfare, is its purpose.

Nothing new; Berger had Smith write the plan to remove armor, arty, and remove a Regiment……..we have lost firepower, any grunt in this biz can tell you how important a plt of tanks in the fight is. The MEU, MEB and MAGTF are less potent……..S/F

Yeah exactly they reduced towed a try and eliminated tanks big difference. There are moving over to himars which effectively serve the same purposes. Came from a arty unit btw

It is NOT the service to join nowadays folks. Period. Air Force will always be #1 but if you want to run around and play GI Joe, it's Army Rangers and Green Beret all the way.
