As someone who's been into Minecraft modding since the game's inception, I can't believe someone was able to recreate Finite Liquid in the modern game!

Imagine if you add rain accumulation to this mod. Turn on never ending thunderstorms and try to see how long you can weather it out.

"Waterfalls literally do not exist"

I'm pretty sure you could design a pump which creates realistic waterfalls and rivers though.

I feel like you never really think about how water makes no sense, so it's interesting how changing that would break almost everything that you're used to normally seeing. This breaks almost every mob farm, if you mlg bucket you're pretty sure to loose the water you used, speedrunners can't build nether portals, you can't stop yourself from drowning by blocking off the leak, and so much more. Also there should be a naturally occurring water spring block that would provide infinite water

Imagine doing this in 1.18, finding a colossal cave under and ocean and draining the whole ocean 😂

"I've never really seen another mod like it"
You must be new. Finite liquids was ground-breaking technology back in it's day.
I hope this mod adds much of the old finite-liquids functionality.

I rememeber a mod back in the day called Finite liquid which was just like this, glad someone finally made a updated version of it after so long.

What if water levels increased globally when it rained? That could be an interesting survival scenario, having to change the way you build to avoid flooding.

The idea of this mod is as old as the Minecraft Beta, and it's always been amazing. I'm glad it's making a return.

We're getting closer to those water physics animations bois, soon we don't even need to watch the animations and see it for ourselves since it's a mod

How to do a little trolling
Step 1: find ocean
Step 2: dig to bedrock
Step 3: remove bedrock
Step 4: watch the consequences of your actions as the entire ocean is drained away into the never ending void.

Kinda reminds me of terreria's water physics, actually it's almost identical! also imagine if they added water pressure.

I thought of this in 2013. It was the follow-up thought that made me much less clever or accomplished than I could have been: "maybe someday when we all have supercomputers."
My computer at the time ran minecraft at 0-1 fps on "tiny" distance, and I still enjoyed the game, and learned how to space out multiple inputs per frame so that they would all be accepted and affect the right blocks. Instead of having a rate, the frames had a rhythm, and so did my controls. I don't know about 1.17, but a sound can only start at the same time as a frame in 1.3, so a choir of sheep herd goes completely silent while waiting for the next frame if your hardware is weak enough... almost forgot that fact. I play at 90 fps now, a fact that would have exploded my juvenile self's head, killing him instantly. And we do all own supercomputers in 2021. Like we did in 2011, and in 2001. We just have short memories and an insatiable appetite for improvement.

So at the time, the only mod idea I was seriously interested in trying to create was a text-mode minecraft mod, where nearby blocks and their positions would be printed out by name and you would type commands to control the player, one action at a time. Same game, different interface. Wonder where that idea came from.

My point being, the limitations of your medium do make you more creative, but creativity is not productivity. We now have the power to be much more productive, but to be creative still requires pushing against our boundaries.
Sand physics is up next or something. Or mob AI that learns.

I would love to see this evolve. Heres a list of things id love to see aswell
One is something like bubble columns somehow push water up.
Another thing id like to see that might be pushing it a bit far is a "spring" block that produces water or pushes water upwards, maybe from below it.
Rain slowly causes puddles.
Water slowly evaporates.
