The hybrid drive of the Mazda2 combines a 68 kW/93 hp 1.5 liter three-cylinder petrol engine with a 59 kW/80 hp electric motor. With a system output of 85 kW/116 hp, the Mazda2 Hybrid accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and has a top speed of 175 km/h. The vehicle is extremely efficient: fuel consumption in the combined WLTP cycle is just 3.8 to 4.0 liters per 100 kilometers, which corresponds to CO₂ emissions of 87 to 93 g/km.

When driving off, the Mazda2 Hybrid automatically starts in almost silent EV mode without emitting CO₂, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and other pollutants. In normal driving, the petrol engine and electric motor work together as effectively as possible to achieve an optimal balance between power delivery and fuel efficiency. The kinetic energy generated during braking is recovered and stored in the high-performance battery. A generator driven by the engine keeps the battery charge level constant – external charging is therefore neither necessary nor possible.

Despite its compact dimensions, the new Mazda2 Hybrid offers plenty of space: with a wheelbase of 2.56 meters, up to five people can enjoy plenty of space, and the trunk volume is 286 liters. The top rating of five stars in the crash test of the independent testing organization Euro NCAP testifies to the high level of safety of the Mazda2 Hybrid. Customers can choose from the three equipment lines Pure, Agile and Select.

The hybrid model is the latest result of a long-term collaboration between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation. It is supplied as an OEM model by Toyota Motor Europe, a wholly owned Toyota subsidiary.

In the US, Mazda with Toyota badge is pretty established thing, this inverse approach is also understandable, as is easy to imagine that developing of a city car with a little to none gross margin is maybe too much for relatively smaller automaker like Mazda.

Hello i must corect you. In video you say that this engine have 4cylinder but this engine have 3cylinder and port injection system whit gpf filter. Its m15a-fxe toyota engine whit 0w8 oil.

Don't like what they did. The Mazda 2 was a very nice small car design which I fancied from afar.
I would have liked that to be updated rather than take the styling of another car lock, stock and barrel (as we say).

I don't understand Mazda philosophy, why they not implemented the same toyota hybrid technic into the existing Mazda2 or in a new Mazda 2!? Why they use this toyota face which is not Mazda style at all !

Engine details. Transmission tunnel? Frront wheel drive? Battery position? Mpg. Toyota and or Mazda? Who builds it? Build quality? Mazda is known for rust but Toyota isn't. Does Toyota come with same 1.5 engine? Toyota badge purchase or Mazda purchase?

Shame for Mazda to rebadge the yaris. At least mazda could improve the design, the ugly cheap toyota dashboard, and the fit and finish quality.and maybe tuned the drive fun mazda is famous at.
