The hybrid drive of the Mazda 2 combines a 68 kW/93 hp 1.5 liter three-cylinder petrol engine with a 59 kW/80 hp electric motor. With a system output of 85 kW/116 hp, the Mazda2 Hybrid accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and has a top speed of 175 km/h. The vehicle is extremely efficient: fuel consumption in the combined WLTP cycle is just 3.8 to 4.0 liters per 100 kilometers, which corresponds to CO₂ emissions of 87 to 93 g/km.

When driving off, the Mazda 2 Hybrid automatically starts in almost silent EV mode without emitting CO₂, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and other pollutants. In normal driving, the petrol engine and electric motor work together as effectively as possible to achieve an optimal balance between power delivery and fuel efficiency. The kinetic energy generated during braking is recovered and stored in the high-performance battery. A generator driven by the engine keeps the battery charge level constant – external charging is therefore neither necessary nor possible.

Despite its compact dimensions, the new Mazda 2 Hybrid offers plenty of space: with a wheelbase of 2.56 meters, up to five people can enjoy plenty of space, and the trunk volume is 286 liters. The top rating of five stars in the crash test of the independent testing organization Euro NCAP testifies to the high level of safety of the Mazda2 Hybrid. Customers can choose from the three equipment lines Pure, Agile and Select.

The hybrid model is the latest result of a long-term collaboration between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation. It is supplied as an OEM model by Toyota Motor Europe, a wholly owned Toyota subsidiary.

What I am thinking now is how do we decide which to buy the Toyota Yaris or the Mazda 2 they look identical but does the Mazda have the skyactive engine I am a Toyota owner for 30 years and always had amazing reliability but need to downsize.

I'm not a big fan of brand badging. We recently owned a 2016 Mazda Two and we were very fond of it. When it came to looking for a successor, we did some research and were horrified when we saw it. It's not just putting a Mazda logo on a yaris. The presumably new small car in the Mazda family does not even match the really chic Kodo design. he becomes like the little ugly duckling in a swan family. I don't know what is involved in such a decision. Anyway, if I decide to buy a Mazda compact car, I want it to look like a Mazda compact car, apart from the fact that I don't like the Toyota design. I also don't buy a Samsung watch and just stick an apple logo on it. I don't think I did Mazda a favor by doing this.
