Blown Radio Brought Back to Life: The TenTec 1340 is on the air!

- I have owned this since November 2013, and I have never made a QSO on it. I hooked it to power in 2014, but the power supply was reversed, and I blew the output transistor and the LM386. I replaced those two parts quickly, but never was successful in making a QSO on it. Recently I decided to get it out from under my desk and make a QSO a reality. On the night of March 30, 2022 I opened it up and walked through the manual testing the VFO then the power amp and managed to get the RIT lined up correctly. It was well past my bed time at that point so I went to bed. Today (March 31, 2022) I called CQ on 40 meters until someone answered me.

The radio works! It does have one issue. The frequency drifts up big time. In 30 minutes I went from 7.057.75 to 7.058.5. I may have to find a fix for that in the future. Until then I will enjoy it as it is.

It’s a six minute video. Use it as CW practice.

UUuuh! Nice! I'm trying to build one simple cw qrp here, some say that transistors does this frequency drift, maybe someone inside there are overheating...
