I never knew this as a scientific fact but when I worked with homeless people the meth addicts and the schizophrenics acted so similar I started having to ask people who were bordering psychosis if they were on meth. And in fact, I met someone outside of work who showed small signs of psychosis and I asked him in private “bro…have you ever done meth?” I’ve never seen someone get scared so fast in my life. He couldn’t believe I knew his secret. He’d been a meth addict for years and moved to where I lived to try and escape the life he had been living. Was wild. Yes meth makes people psychotic!!!

I remember my days on acid. High school and experimentation. LSD is just a high speed roller coaster ride through a neon LED kaleidoscope carnival while being worped into a wormhole for twelve hours. Every ride was with eager apprehension and anticipation. You know you'll be gone for awhile. Blotter was my choice. I had friends who microdot only

Psychedelic mushrooms are a beautiful thing and I hope there's a day all will get to use them medicinally and reap the benefits.

Psychedelics can easily trigger manic episodes. No, a psychedelic trip isn’t exactly like mania, but I’ve had countless manic episodes caused by psychedelics. Psychedelics were the single biggest trigger of my episodes. I have far less episodes now that I don’t use psychedelics. In fact, the antipsychotic I’m on is an antagonist of the very same serotonin receptor site, 5HT-2A, that the classical psychedelics are most active on as agonists. Of course stimulants can trigger mania easily as well. Psychedelics can, in some ways, help a bipolar diagnosis, but they often come with risks that can easily outweigh the rewards if the psychedelic use isn’t managed perfectly.

Lack of sleep by itself can cause it.
Sleep deprivation psychosis is a real thing, that when the shadow people come out or you enter their world.

I can say from experience that meth gives you psychosis and it is very different than acid

I have schizoaffective disorder, and when I took psychedelics it triggered a psychotic episode that was involved me losing my hair. Interestingly, it wasn't during the peak of the trip, but rather the come down. I came to the conclusion that I was completely alone in the universe, and I felt totally afraid and very cold. I think it's less of the substance itself but rather the revelations of the substance that cause mania and psychosis in individuals, which is why you'd need to be in a good headspace in order to take them. Amphetamines are dopamenergic which is what schizophrenia is in the brain—an overabundance of dopamine.

I'm doing amphetamines from time to time (and believe me when I say I'm not an addict, I clearly know the difference) to stimulate myself during crunch times (I'm a software developer). The amount of anxiety and aggression I feel afterwards make me quit the drug every now and then for several months, but the stimulating and mind accelerating effect is so tremendous that it evolved into a powerful tool for me to use in times of big stress.

I don't want to encourage people to do drugs, and if I could choose to I would never started to use them to beginn with. Everything I want to say with that is, that it can definetly make a change for the better if you use them with caution.

Too much cocaine and lack of sleep will give you bad psychosis also. So will too many Benzodiazepines. Not fun.

I think psychedelics would improve the lives of so many if it was treated as a medicine and researched more

Psychedelics changed my life for the better. Better to the point I learned how to make DMT.

Very interesting, well, maybe it's because they cause a raise in adrenaline and it impairs the brain somehow. But I don't know. Thank you for sharing and thank you Jordan Peterson for sharing your knowledge.
