Stoosbahn - the steepest funicular in the world

A new funicular has been opened in Stoos, Switzerland. This is the steepest funicular in the world (World Record) with maximum gradient reaching 110% (47°). The train comprises 4 rotating barrel compartments with glass ceiling offering astounding views.

I was there just yesterday. The guide man told us that the cost till this moment is 88M Swiss Fr. and it took 12 years to be constructed and planned. Wikipedia says: 5y and 52M CHF...

I don't even remember watching this video 5 years ago, but since then I looked up the word funicular, and it seems this may not be a real funicular because it does not seem to have counterbalances up and down cables.

Do those cars rotate to keep the floor level? This is really spectacular. Amazing, that must also be one heck of a long cable ... and probably costs a fortune. I hope they keep it well maintained and inspected. Amazing, hope to visit there someday.

The steepest one is in Australia. In Europe in Zagreb the steep is 52 degree and Stoos is 47.
