The new funicular which opened in Stoos Switzerland in December 2017 is the steepest funicular in Switzerland and Europe. It takes passengers from Schwyz to the car-free resort of Stoos in the Swiss Alps.

On a length of 1.7 kilometres (1.1 mi), it overcomes a height difference of 744 metres (2,441 ft). It opened on 15 December 2017 and replaces the older Schwyz-Stoos funicular, operating since 1933. The carriages are barrel-shaped and rotate to maintain a level floor surface for passengers. Construction took 5 years and cost 52 million Swiss francs.

The new funicular has a maximum gradient of 110% and is the steepest funicular railway in Switzerland and Europe, superseding the Gelmerbahn.

It's unbelievable what things the humanity invents to make money while endangering other humans. This is a disaster waiting to happen, if the cable (or whatever is keeping it running) some day snaps...
