Whoever ran the heavy equipment to cut that track was quite skilled and possessed cojones of steel.

Several years ago I was camping up near the top of the Black Bear Road, and I rode my XT600 down to Telluride, gassed up and rode back up that road. Going back up was more difficult than going down. If I remember right, it is usually one way. I figured that I could easily get out of the way of anyone coming down.

Up near the top, I met an older Jeep Wagoner that was just starting to go down the ledges. He asked me if I thought that his Jeep, that was not lifted and was actually quite low, would have any issues. I honestly told him that he was going to hit the bottom of his rig on almost all of the ledges. I said that if it was me, I would turn around. He did. Those ledges, at least at that time, were a couple of feet high. It was not an issue with my XT600, but by this time I had been riding for 20 years. You tend to pick up things, and ways of tackling problems. LOL

That house that is on the cliff next to a sheer drop-off is amazing. I could never sleep there. I give a lot of credit to the people that built it, especially the roofers. Terrifying would be how I would explain roofing that house!

I live there, a friend who is in her 60’s drove her Subaru over Black Bear pass, said it was spicy 😂. Yeah, she’s one of a kind.

That road looks like a whole bunch of Z's and W's all strung together.

Sadly Black Bear Pass never opened on the Telluride side for the 2023 season. I try to run it at least once every year, so here is to hoping it opens in 2024, great video!

Nice video. I live in Colorado and head to Ouray every summer. This will be my 18th year going over Black Bear with a manual transmission JLUR.

I had a fun time in my Dodge Diesel 2500. A big truck but it was beautiful. We made many four point turns. A Jeep in front of us tipped on its side and trashed the body. We stood him back and got him on his way. He bought us dinner that night.

Oh yeah!
I've done it 3 times. The first time in sleeting hail, second time in heavy rain, and finally on a nice sunny day!
I'm obsessed with this trail. I'll do it again next year if they open it, unlike this year.

I just saw a vide9 with the local sheriff cautioning people to not be "ass clowns" on this demanding and dangerous road. Nice to see it run properly. As for me, the Million Dollar Highway is hair raising enough.

Hello from Greeley! Awesome video! I’m not afraid of heights, but when traveling through the mountains my anxiety goes to 100 on tight roads like these.

There's another pass in Colorado that's even more dangerous, and thank goodness most of the locals don't share its location

I have done Black Bear Pass twice with guides both times...in a Suburban the first time...and a Jeep the 2nd. The guide said that he had driven Clive Cussler, the late novelist on the trail the day before. It is a thrilling trip for sure. I felt like I was in the right seat next to you. This was an excellent video!!!
