105-year-old Julia Hawkins of Louisiana just set a world record at the Louisiana Senior Olympic Games for being the first woman and first American in her age group to run 100 meters. But this achievement is just a drop in the bucket for the centenarian who has lived through two world wars and spent 70 years married to the love of her life. Lead national correspondent David Begnaud reports.

As a 30 year old man I am ashamed of myself.

Beautiful story. My mom just passed at 98. Sharp like Julia, missing her husband, also. Life isn’t the same for older folk when their mate dies. The older mom got, the more she missed daddy. Now, they are together again! Good for you, Miss Julia! God bless you!

If she doesn't end up being the record holder for oldest person in the future I'll be surprised. Her cognitive and physical ability is phenomenal

I want to be a Ms Julia @that age! I’m 64 and have walked 3392 miles It will be 4 yrs Nov 15…. the first steps I took in 3 months were on that date, after a tragic fall and shattering my spine. The only way to move forward is to get up and do it! I did and I havnt looked back

I had a hard time holding back tears when she spoke of her husband singing to her before he died.

Inspiring is the word...and a charming southern gal to boot. It's wonderful to see folks getting older, and not exactly getting old. Thanks for doing this story and posting it here. ❤☮🌎

What an utterly magnificent woman. Goodness gracious, so adorable, inspiring, and utterly endearing. We lost our grandpa earlier this year at 103. Another utterly amazing human being. Sharp and mentally sound, despite his mobility having waned beginning at 101. I miss him so much. Such an honor to be related to him. And like Mrs. Hawkins, he also is from Louisiana. ❤
