I have one. It'll remove the general dust and dirt from the carpet but if you have actual staining it's pretty ineffective. Overall I'd say it works a little better than a good conventional vacuum cleaner. Except it leaves the carpet slightly damp afterwards. Maybe if I used it every month it would be more effective, but I use it probably yearly (vacuuming bi-weekly). It's nowhere near as effective as the machines you can rent from hiring shops.
