Notice how she was reaching her hands out to shake but he anyway went in for the kiss and hair sniff. A lot of people defend this claiming it's a custom in Italy to kiss when greeting. That extends to men meeting other men. When a man greets a woman, he's not supposed to kiss or sniff her.
