This is such an insightful conversation and we are sooo grateful for their willingness to chat with our community and share about the current state of AI as it relates to Copyright laws.

Love this. Thank you for bringing it to the community. I'm a huge fan of going deeper to find the ethics and fair and equitable uses of new technology. I've had these discussions for years with staff and faculty, I'm an educator teaching film, was a Dean of Education, now I'm a Faculty Trainer. As much as I love your news content, this is vastly more valuable. Thank you again and I can't wait to see more.

Probably depends on a lot of factors, including - are you using existing characters / IP that you have no license to use in your little videos to gain likes and follows (and ad revenue?)> That's a slippery slope and probably makes everyone who use AI to tell stories look bad.

I'm using a combination of photographs and simple 3D scenes that I create in blender to set up compositions and then running those through the AI to fill in gaps and effectively as a filter, I still retain the rights for my images from both my photographs and my 3D render, so I would have essentially partial right just not from the output or is there enough of my work that I would retain all rights

If creators are using AI to make content trained on other people’s creations without permission, why should they be able to then own their ai creations. It’s not one set of rules for one group and another set for another. If you ‘borrow’ other people’s art for data mining then your art is fair game too

This will probably be in courts for years. In the meantime there are plentys of ways to use AI where copyright isn’t an issue. In short, I’m not going to worry about this. At some point this will get worked out and I’ll adjust accordingly.

I want to know if I can use a cloned voice of Sir David Attenborough for joke reels or inspirational messages that align with his values, without needing permission, especially since it's not for profit or malicious intent.

Great discussion. I've followed copyright for a long time, being in the independent entertainment industry and a lot of it is outdated but I do agree with protecting the advancement of new technology. I think that there are arguments to be made for the human hand in AI generated work, especially when it comes to interfaces like ComfyUI. I'll be speaking on the subject in Long Beach at the end of July during a horror convention called Midsummer Scream.

To me the real issue here is the ‘sensitive content’ policy that rule our prompts. No blood, no f* word… how do u manage a decent SF flick with this

think it's fair for ai to use other peoples work as reference but the moment it's the same thing or very close then yea I can see a problem

How are these lawyers experts in AI law? AI is only a couple years old and no one including the Supreme Court can sort it out.

What about generating a parody cartoon of a famous person, like the president? I assume that must be legal, right?
Or even just a caricature?
When does a 6-fingered caricature of the president become an illegal likeness misappropriation?

While I do enjoy your content, I literally fell asleep after watching four minutes of this video

What "modicum of creativity" does a human photographer make when they mostly just click a shutter button? If photographers can claim copyright on their images, why can't people that use AI tools claim copyright?

Thank you for sharing this with the public. I hope these amazing AI tools that enhance human creative manifestation live long and grow stronger.
