Kenmore HE washing machine filter check. F-02 / SUDs code & related solution.

F 02 , suds' will work on other front loading washing machines. ECO ball, trap door filter water pump. Kenmore Elite, HE washing machine.

First of all i love this washer as its been a work horse for about 25 years, but the last couple years have been a struggle. Im not sure if the ball is to limit or slow down water flow or whatz/ Frankly i never read all the posted comments after i did my repair. so here goes. I've done the plastic drain hose from the pump with blowing compressed air through it, removed the pump and soaked the hose, , snaked it etc. Went through a couple pumps that got hot as heck and burned out from just running after clearing F02 code numerous times to get a single load of laundry done. My wife started complaining and was going to run out and drop big money on a over priced new washer. Frankly I've been so tired of hearing about the code again and spending all weekend to get laundry done that i figured go ahead. But I didn't say go ahead. Then i found this awesome video and sat in aw, watched it again and said what do i have to lose? 30 seconds to remove the 3 screws on the front panel, 1 screw to to slide take drain housing forward and twist out the plastic screen. I grabbed a coat hanger then gently ran it up to the ball careful not to poke the rubber boot. Sure enough it felt awful heavy for a plastic ball. Off to the garage and grabbed some pliars, channel locks, vice grips small and large and a light and a plate from the cupboard. Put the plate under where the hose attaches to catch any water, the light in place and i then only focused on the large snap ring clamp on the bottom of the tub drain on the rubber boot. with not too much fiddling it was easier compress the clamp a wee bit and turn it counter clockwise and then work on the left side as there is more room. A little monkeying around and you can slide the boot and clamp down. And you will get some water. Roll the clamp off the rubber hose and there it was a plastic ball 3/4 filled with gunky wash water and it can be popped out with very little effort. A little bit of messing around and struggle to reinstall. But note, compressing the ring clamp with a vice grip and screwing the knob on your vice grips tighter and and having it at the very top of the rubber is the only easy way to get the recessed inside of the rubber drain line up on the inside and outside at the same time. Ensure the rubber is snug on the bottom of the tub while gradually releasing the snap ring clamp by turning your vice grip knob. You may need to to compress a bit and turn and make sure the rubber is not kinked. You may need to mess around with the last few steps and positioning and compressing the clamp but you will get there. Remove light, plate, tools and reinstall drain. First load was just a "rinse and drain" and it was flawless and no code. Second load flawless and no code, as was the third. So thanks Theodore Alva for helping me with your video and me giving the F02 code a big f-u goodbye. LOL. And most of all you probably saved me $2K and new washer that would not last near as long as this Kenmore Elite HE4 Quiet Pak has. Thank You!

before you do all these-- please take a look at the drain hose hanging off the back of the washer (from washer to drain)---its easy to remove. mine was completely clogged. I had FO2 code.
Of course these tips in video are very good too :) just trying to save some work

That metal piece you found in the filter was from the support that holds the basket onto the main bearing, inside of the tub! Eventually that will break and your washer will shake real bad on the spin cycle! Very major expensive repair.

It was nice to hear your theory that removing the ball may fix the problem but any chance you can tell us if that fixed the problem or if you ended up getting a new pump?

Was it just the eco ball or did you have to replace the pump?

Very interesting. I've got the same SUD/F02 error code and I opened up the filter to clean it out and nothing was in it! I guess my next step is to check the ball...?

I strongly believe the metal chunks found in drain screen are from the " spider arm " that holds the SS drum. NOT of disintegration of same.

maybe its not a rock, maybe its an piece of the aluminium support spider
