Lets compare how the gardens look before and after the First Freeze of the season. Winter is on its way and it is time to think about what to do now for a head start on Spring!

Hi, I am Pamela and I garden in the mountains of Northern California. Though I am in Zone 8, I have a short growing season and many challenges that I overcome. I love to talk gardening and share my small, compact, and jam-packed gardens with everyone!

Good morning Pam 🥰
I like your idea of putting the Hyde Hall roses intermixed with the peonies!
Isn’t crazy how fast our weather went from hot hot to cold cold? lol 😂 I’m not acclimated yet either.

Your secret garden is still lovely despite the freeze 🥶 I so love the seasons. A time for rest… for the garden as well as us!
Have a blessed day my friend ❤

We had the first frost yesterday. So late this year.

We had several frosts and freezes and unusual warm days still in November. I have most things done and debating on leaving glads in, but I wanted to make a sitting area there so maybe not. We normally dig glads but our winters have been warm.

lol, we all want to try so many plants and then all of a sudden we find the perfect mix. I have check marks of those to move, thin or never again. I did grow the orange snaps and they are really going strong now that it’s end of season and so hope they survive the winter. I don’t think I will need to start many flowers next year as the sleepers will be creeping next year.

We have recently discovered voles and they have to go before I get more bulbs. The hollyhocks got rust and will be moved to the meadow. Never had that problem but too much rain and humidity all summer. The Gomphrena foliage is yellow, but the blooms still carry color and I think I have seed, we will see. Still have Sylvia blooming and it’s a very bright light purple. Moved some coneflower and got most catalpa trees moved and they seem to be my new weed. Blanket flower and Susan’s are always plentiful.

The leaves are mostly off, but the blueberries are Wow 🤩 the colors are gorgeous and see why they are used in landscaping. Ooo, that JMaple is gorgeous!!

Thanks for a check in!

How long and wide are your cattle panel arches? Or at least I think they are made from cattle panel. If not what did you use? I love them and need some! Lol
