Hands down the standing OHP is one of the best movements there is. I don't know what it is but when I'm doing it it always makes my upper body look thicked and fuller. Like a little rock. Shoulders arms upper chest everything. Haven't seen that with beach or other exercise. 👍

It does, but only if you use many variations in addition to special accessory movements. This combination will give you the delts..and so the OHP is nothing more than a BENCHMARK to your 3D delt development.

I did standing barbell OHP, 185 for four reps. My delts looked pretty flat until I got back on lateral raises. I was not taking a well-rounded approach (as far as delt work) at that time, and was focusing on the press itself. Current press strength close to what it was then, but more variety has definitely helped make them pop more.

I can neck level z press 135 for 5x1 at 170 right now. It's a perfect exercise for me because I'm on crutches right now. I'm really trying to build my upper back size, overhead strength and close grip bench. I used to bench 315, overhead press 185, easy 100lb weighted chin and 225 power clean 3x5 at my strongest( weighing 180 at 5' 10"). I sound like a fucking madman grunting like a pissed off gorilla hitting every set, even my hammer curls. I'm gonna get that strength back!!

great video alex, but i disagree that you need to always go heavy on your side raises, OHP should be your base, but I got great results from feeder workouts for delts and high reps, time under tension is also a great factor to hypertrophy, I have a 100 kg overhead press so I think I know at least something.

I think I've always been gifted for OHP (it's also my favorite lift). For example I can bench 75-80 kg's for reps, but my overhead press is 58-60 kg's. There was a time when I was doing standing dumbbell presses with 24 kg's in each hand at 66kg bw. Now that I included Z-Presses into my routine my shoulders started growing like crazy.

My best ohp has been 200lbs my bench blew the fuck up when I got good at ohp dawg...then I discovered I wasn't the only one when I saw your videos, so I figured I should keep at it, thanks a MILLION for rootin for natural lifters out here that refuse to let social media dictate how they train bro

I've been overhead pressing high volume 3x a week strictly for my pressing movement and my overhead press went from 215lb to 230lb in 3 weeks while dropping bodyweight. Also went from a 185lb x 5 reps to 185lb x 8 reps on overhead press. When I say overhead press I mean strict no leg drive. My delts also got a hell of a lot bigger doing so. I have close to 3D delts as a natural. Once I get to 240lb strict overhead press and 185lb x 10 reps and then even 250lb strict overhead press and 200lb x 8-10 reps my delts will keep growing

Question: you've mentioned in your novice program that If you cannot bench 225×5, squat 315×5, and deadlift 405×5, then you are a novice lifter. What about the OHP, Barbell Row or Weighted Pull-ups? What would you consider to be an intermediate lifters numbers on these other compound movements?

How to focus on more medical delts on overhead press through grip, angles and which variation etc?

Have you tried band upright rows? I've been doing them while standing on an open band, thumbs facing up grip. Crazy side delt tension, even moreso than band face pulls

My OHP is terrible, max is about 135 lbs mainly due to it aggravating my sciatica. Anyone do seated barbell press? Thinking of throwing it in!
