Thanks for posting this video. My grand father was a comercial fisherman. He made all of his own nets .this is something I haven't seen done since I was a young kid. He tried to teach me how to knit but I never could get it .

This is the best set of vids that I have found on net making!! We have horses and a lot of that baling twine just going to waste. Or at least it was! Thank you for taking the time to make such a concise instructional vid. I'm going to make some nice hay feed nets and cargo nets for my trucks! [pickup trucks]

Wow, this is the same method my father uses to make hammocks accept without the use of the tools. He uses his fingers to make the size of the loop then just uses the previous loop to pull the line to the exact same size. Also the same process to make cast nets. Your video makes the knot & looping more simplied than the way my family does it. Great video & keep up the awesome work.

Hi Chris. I use two sizes of needle both of which are 10 inches long. The thinner one is 5/8 inch wide, the thicker one is 3/4 inch wide. Hope this helps and all the very best.

Finally got some fence wire and made a triangle. I prefer it purely because all the twine is attached at the ring so theres no chance of it sliding around the ring. Thanks again.

Thanks Chris. I am not sure what tex, but the twine is 1.4mm diameter and has a stated breaking strain of 22KP.
All the very best.

Yes pal. The triangle is used instead of the ring and the main advantage is that you have a bigger object to thread a fully loaded needle through.(as against a relatively small 1" ring) The triangle can be made out of galvanised wire, and the bottom side of it needs the ability to be unclipped, so that you can slide it off at the end to tie on the ring. After you have knitted the first row, then there is little advantage to the triangle method, however It is the method I now use most of the time

@Ghelimir I will hve a play around sometime and see if I can work out a way of doing it. It isnt essential but it does give you a nice tidy final knot. Nylon is awefull for knitting nets, and spun poly is much softer but very strong, if you can get it.

A mesh board that is 1.5 inches wide, will make a 1.5 x 1.5 inch square mesh. The difference in size is that when a mesh is pulled diagonally, it is 3 inches long, and is sometimes described as such.
I hope this makes sense, and helps you.

Thanks for your series of videos on net making! Excellent teacher, clear and easy to understand... Have you made hoop nets before, for fishing? Forming a Rosette and so on. I would like to learn how to make a 30 inch hoop net with 5 hoops and 2 flews.
