You should try out the Chronicles of St. Mary's - there is time travel, but they are historians and go back in time to study history and observe - obviously things go wrong but it's really fun!

I was nodding along the whole time, but definitely feel the same with time travel and reader MCs. when reading isn’t actually important to the book it especially feels like pandering. I think SJM is one of the worst offenders of that.

I hate the "best friend who waited until the girl found another guy to act on his feelings and be an asshole about it" trope too!!! I feel like it also promotes the idea that friendships between men and women are fake and can only end in romance or in heartbreak??? Like puh-LEASE we get enough shitty guys like that IRL, we don't need to *read* about them. JUST. Give me ONE (1) platonic relationship between a guy and a girl that stays that until the end.

I think there are too many reader protagonists in books too. It's just not very interesting.
