FR!! These tropes always make me cringe. Especially the “I’m just plain, no way boys have crushes on me!” it reminds me of Keeper Of The Lost Cities, Sophie literally has 3 guys have a crush on her and she only SLIGHTLY SUBCONSCIOUSLY suspected 1 🙄✋

if i see a single trope like this in the first chapter, and it's not immediately called out or mocked, that book goes back on the shelf lmfao

Genuine favorite book trope,
Enemies to lovers
“Who did it. WHO HURT YOU?” 😂

To be fair, i think the "I'm doing this alone/I can't let anyone die for me" trope can have its place, such as a trauma response from someone struggling with survivor's guilt and the realization that their only plan will likely also get them killed/their survivor's guilt has turned them into a death seeker. For example, (yes it's a male example, but one of the most well known)Frodo's resolve to destroy the Ring alone after Gandalf's death, Boromir's breakdown and just the sheer amount of danger his presence as a Ring Bearer brings to those around him. Even before reaching Rivendell, Sam, Merry and Pippin, his childhood friends and family were nearly killed multiple times. For those who haven't read the books, there's not just the Nazgûl, they pass through a forest where they're nearly killed by malicious trees and then evil spirits called barrow wights, and this is before the Hobbits have even reached Bree or met Aragorn. Also a fourth friend of Frodo's is left behind to cover for the others and buy time before people realize they're gone, and that poor Hobbit barely escapes an attack by three of the Nazgûl.

Idk I don’t mind the doing things alone, but it needs to be set up well. All the others I 100% agree with

BAHAHAHA. So glad I’m not the only one who makes these facial expressions.

Maybe "the other girls" trope would have worked if the character was in a company of the girls she doesn't like. Like here the other girls might represent the group of girls who are friends with eachother, but not with her. They don't like her and she doesn't like them back. For some plot related reason she is forced to be with them and when they are at the restaurant in-between the things she had to do in their company, she orders a hamburger while the other girls (shallow and vane group of friends) all order salads and then silently judge her for the burger.

The way you pass the pages and your facial expression is fantastic. The whispered ... why??? perfection. Also, I love your necklace

Cant tell if the "youve only been training one month, weve been training our whole lives" line is just a trope summery or a literal line from the shadowhunters series. 😅

Only trained for a month. Thinks they can take an army of well trained soldiers.😂

"No, you don't understand. I've been training my whole life."😂 You stole bread and ran your whole life.

I read this one book with the trope of the “plain girl” UGH
She goes to a cabin with her friends for a hang out and her ex-boyfriend’s brother was apparently ”so hot and desirable”
And the girl and him end up in a scene where he has her against a tree-
And later on they like, lust after each other for most of the book???

Needless to say I put the book down and threw it across my room

The pregnancy trope is rarely done right

Question for all book lovers: is the pregnancy trope too dangerous to use in a book where one of the key elements in the story is the fact that most people are infertile???
