I am an in-home caregiver for elderly and have stopped several patients from being scammed over the phone and intercede when I hear patients getting their bank account info. I ask the scammer for their FCC number. They rattle off a random #. When I ask them to repeat it, they can't and they know they have been caught and hang up. I then instructed them to NEVER give personal info i.e, SS # or bank accounts. It makes me wonder how many time this happens when I myself or someone else is present to stop the calls. Bless these Sr. Citizens!

I have a variety of ways I deal with a scammer.

Sometimes, I act like I have a REALLY, REALLY bad stutter (it's probably my favourite, esp because it wastes their time considerably). Either they get frustrated and hang up, or just before giving them the last number of my made up credit card (which has taken ages), I start laughing at them and say, "HAHAHAHA SUCKER!!!" Then hang up.

I talk like I'm speaking another language, but it's all jibberish. The only English I'll speak is, "Engleesh. Speak. No."

Another favourite is to bombard them with a million questions. One girl got really frustrated and put me on to her manger. He realised what I was doing after a bit and hung up.

And, yet another favourite is to say to the scammer that I know it's you Elmer and recognise his voice. I go on to say, "I told you before, I AM NOT INTO DUDES!" I finish saying I'm going to get a restraining order and he better stop stalking me.

Or, as they talk, I have only one reply to everything. "Yes." I like to see how long it takes before they figure it out.

OK. One more. When they call, I inform them that I have someone else on the line and that I'll just be a second to end that call and get back to them straight away. I then mute my phone and keep them waiting a few minutes. Nearly every one waits for me to 'end my other call'. When I return, I start giving them an order for a pizza. When they inform me they are not a pizza delivery, I argue with them and tell them they are and I demand that my order is delivered in under a half hour, or I expect it be free of charge.

I've got a load of other things I do to scam them. LMAO!

When I hear these scammers and the way they speak to people, I can't believe people fall for it. A professional would never speak this way to someone.
