Toyota Prius (2016-2022): Hybrid Battery Air Filter Replacement.

Показать описание
In this video, we will show how to replace the Hybrid Battery Air Filter in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 Toyota Prius.
Our recommendation is to visually inspect the hybrid battery air filter at least once per year. If you see significant dirt accumulation, the filter needs to be either vacuumed or completely replaced. This will prolong the life span of the hybrid battery.

Filter HV Battery Part Number: G92DH-47070.

Thanks so much for this video. My Toyota dealership wanted to charge me $300 to replace it. I watched your video, went to the parts department and bought it for $20!

I changed my Hybrid Battery Air-filter!
Note that he’s lying on his stomach on the backseat. That’s indeed the right position for it to be easy!
I took off the cover to the filter twice. Once to see if it needed to be replaced (absolutely) and then the second time to replace it after the filters came from Amazon.
The second time I had a very hard time removing the one screw. Because the screw is going into a clip kinda like a drywall screw, it made it weird to try and get back out. I applied a good bit of pressure on the side of the “clip” with a flathead screwdriver and finally got it out. It still didn’t take more than 10 minutes.
Again, thank you for this video!! Saved a lot of money

Simple and direct video, thank you. Made a basic error though...

Never remove and then take off/re-fit a dirty air filter, in the space where the filter is used! After you pull that filter panel, IMMEDIATELY take it outside before disturbing the filter media! This is so you don't drop any trapped dust and crap into the air and space where it filtered from - otherwise it will just get sucked back into the new clean filter you are about to install. You can see the dust from the dirty filter left on the floor mat in the video here!

Same rule (yes, rule) goes for vacuum cleaners, any automotive air filter, furnace filters, you name it. Take it outside first, then pull the filter media, clean the holder, and replace the filter media, then take back in and install. Easy-peasy. Those with allergies will also thank you! 🙂

Thanks for the step by step instructions, it sure helped me to feel more confident that I could do it myself. The flat head screwdriver tip for prying the cover off was especially helpful. And to think that Toyota wanted to charge me $150 to replace the filter when they told me it was dirty during my last service. $15 for two filters and 5 minutes of time.

About to take my Prius in for 60k service and I know this is gonna be recommend.
It took longer to get the screwdrivers out than it did to take the cover off!! Laying down on the backseat like you did is the ticket.
The filter is indeed very dirty, so I’ll be ordering on Amazon (though your link if possible) and doing this myself.
Thanks for the great video!

I had the same issue as many others with the screw appearing to be stripped. Using the side screwdriver method to remove the screw did not work for me. So I went to the Toyota service department and purchased a new screw/plug ($2.25). By looking at the new plug I was able to determine how to best drill out the stripped stuck plug without causing damage. The drill worked like magic. I was able to switch out the filter in less than five minutes. What I learned through this process is the threaded factory screw plug is flawed...it's prone to screwing in but not screwing out. If you didn't want to purchase a new screw/plug I believe a person could drill out the existing screw and replace it with metal screw into the existing plug, just make certain your use a small enough drill bit to avoid over boring the plug. When estimating how deep to drill know that the existing screw is only 1/2 inch deep into that plug. Hope this helps others having the same issue as me.

Thank you very much for your video. I have a 2016 Prius and didn’t even know it had such a filter. I’m going down to check mine now. My dog always rides in the backseat so it’s probably full of dog hair. Thank you again! Just checked the filter and surprise..it was full of dog hair.

Awesome video. I just purchased a 2017 Prius Two. From what I understand the dealership is the only one that serviced this vehicle. Apparently, a power tool was used to reattach the screw, now it just spins in place when I try to remove it. The threading inside is apparently stripped. How do I get this thing out now?

I use a drier sheet to cover the air duct it works so much better then cover filter at keeping fine dog hair or all hair from getting into the fan and duct but mines a 2010 it seems like this filter is like a sponge on this later year unlike mine is a screen

Dirty clogged filters are the primary reason for premature battery failure in hybrid vehicles. Battery live is severely shortened when they run hot and can't get cooling air. Are any Prius owners watching this? Filters are cheap and do-it-yourself. Anyone can do it. Just don't blame Toyota for your problem.

Hi I think they screw on my car is stripped. It keeps turning but doesn't pop out. Can you advise if I can just pry it open by force? The female area seems a simple hole for the insert over the screw. Thank you.
