My dad's former coworker/friend came out as gay to him a few years ago. I always wondered why he never had any special person in his life. He'd spend time with my parents and I on vacations. It was always an awesome and fun time with him. I saw him as another fun and cool uncle in my life. When he came out as gay, it finally clicked why he hasn't found a partner. He's a gay conservative and it's typically hard to find someone like that. We were talking and he was talking to me about how he never really cared much for pride month and pride parades. He just has a mindset of wanting to be left alone and to be able to live his life. He doesn't want to feel special because he's gay, he just wants to be part of society. I love him for him. I never thought that I should treat him any different growing up and now as an adult, I don't treat him any different now too.

I remember 30 years ago when Evangelical Christians warned that gays would come for the children. As a gay man, it made me mad at the time because I could not comprehend that ever happening. Yet it is happening. I am horrified. This is wrong.

I’m 65 and gay. Stopped going to pride parades in my forties because it was embarrassing to be associated with the vulgarity. It just doesn’t represent me.

As a gay teacher, i do not endorse taking any child to pride as it is. I would love to take my children to pride if it was a healthy environment at all, but as the way it is now, we'll make pride at home. Keeping it all healthy and safe for them to interact. For children, these last years of pride parades are more dangerous to them than unsupervised internet.
