I was outed by my mother. my dad called me a queer and a few other choice words. i didn't speak tp him for ten years until mu mom's funeral. i'm closing in on 70 and looking back i always knew but am glad that i have three wonderful sons who i raised knowing that i had a partner. i'm now a grandfather of five. i'm in my twilight years but my heart aches as i read through the stories. cheers.

I was 17, threw a party. In the middle of a dance song, I paused the music and shouted to all my friends and my sisters "Hey, I'm gay." One of my female friends said "We knew already, turn the music back on." I'm 41 now.

I have been out for 42 years last March. The only person I know who comes close to being out as long as myself has been openly Gay for 23 years. I am an anomaly within my own community. My frame of reference is unique as it leaves me without rather than within the community.

I was 12 years old and the year was 1982. A native of San Francisco, California I didn’t know any Gay people for another 5 years. I announced myself and 3/4 of my friends vanished. I was treated very well by my English parents and family. I believe this unbiased and deeply loving treatment by those closest to myself was the key to my not loathing but loving myself.

I came out when I was 21. I was terrified my father was going to kick me out of the house. But I could not take the pain anymore of being so fearful all the time. Keeping the secret is like a poison that eats you up inside. I’m so glad I did it, I feel free now. Being able to come out at a time where we have progressed so much more is amazing. It makes me so sad for the older generation, for some of them who have lived with the secret for their whole lives and finally been able to be true to themselves.

I was "outed" as a teen by peers. The 1980s--during the height of the AIDS epidemic--were a bad time to be gay. It was emotionally painful but I got over it. 🏳️‍🌈

I came out late, after retiring from teaching. I was just shy of 58. Yes, I always knew but life can be complicated.
now with a beautiful man who is my age. 😊

I never had a closet. I've always been feminine, and I've always been bullied for it. People assumed right away that I was gay, so I never had to tell anyone. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's a never ending saga... came out to myself at 24. Then the "comings out" have continued for the last 35 years...

I'm 65 and only out to a few select friends. My generation does not 'come out' like yours does. Also, 'daddy bears' were not so accepted until pretty recently. I'm glad times have changed and you guys can find acceptance, happiness and success.

i came out (with my sexuality) before the gender crisis i went through, now i’m out at home as trans but every where else ppl kinda know that i’m queer, but they don’t know how.
