The aspect about Vietnam all have seem to have forgotten is that during WW 2 the member states of French Indochina, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, fought as anti-Japanese forces on the promise they would be free of the Colonial French laws and influence. The reason for the Vietnam conflict, both with France and the U.S. coalition was due to the French backing out of the agreement. The primary reason the Ho Chi Minh went to the communist governments for support was simple. If the democratic governments of the UK, France, and the US are not going to live up to their promises, why not try Stalin and Mao for a change?
