American Horror Story has had some truly frightening moments since it first premiered in 2011, but there have also been some moments where people thought the show crossed the line. The Ryan Murphy show has dealt with some pretty intense subject matter over the years, but the way it has handled a few of its subjects has led to some serious backlash.

From the school shooting that felt way too realistic and exploitative to the time that the show portrayed Anton LaVey as a murderer, let’s take a look at the most controversial moments in the history of American Horror Story.

#AHS #TVShow #TV

Murder House's school shooting | 0:00
Anne Frank in Asylum | 1:09
Hotel's Addiction Demon | 2:17
Satanic panic | 3:24
Cult's mass shooting | 4:21
Romancing the Minotaur | 5:16

The show is literally about playing on Peoples’s fears, so a school shooting scene isn’t controversial.

I love how people are horrified when you show a shooting because "it actually happened" but they are completely fine with showing horrific murders which happen every day

"this scene is disturbing" I think that's kind of the point. Just look at the name of the show for god's sake

WHO is letting their child watch American Horror Story?? The show is disturbing in all kinds of ways and that's literally its gimmick. Plus it comes on at 10pm on freaking FX which has never advertised itself as a kids' channel anyway.

It’s MEANT to be disturbing, wtf. It’s both psychological and physical horror, don’t like it, don’t watch.

I don't see what the fuss is about. The people who watch AHS know what they are getting into. Yes I have been shocked and disturbed by some of the things I have seen. Each to there own, Its just a show

Everyone needs to chill. It's only a TV show.

This wasn't a *too soon* moment and let's face the fact that these school shootings have become a regular occurrence.
Thus AHS isn't making fun of what happened.
If anything they want you to remember just how much of a tragedy that situation was as opposed to painting a happy face on it and treating it as an anomaly.
I love AHS. They don't believe in bowing down or backing away from controversial topics.

The show is called "American HORROR story" not "American children's story".

If you don't want to be horrified by a TV show then go watch Sabrina the teenage witch and leave the big boy shows to the grown-ups. 🤣

They should have titled this episode AHS moments that triggered critics...

Its a horror show. Humans commit the most horrific acts.
And are we not going to mention season six where people are impaled, disemboweled, burned alive and cannibalized? But you're right Queenie wanting affection is definitely much too scary.

A flashback to a shooting in 1999? These people do realize school shootings happen on the daily in the US, right? Ahs makes light of that fact. It's important to show this fact. The show specializes on common fears and the fact that school shootings are enough of a reality in the US to be a common fear says enough about the state of the country. This sene isn't controversial or insensitive, it's a call to action against gun violence.

I think it's good when shows push boundaries. Also, let's be honest, if airing a show with a shooting after a mass shooting happened in real life isn't allowed, there'd never be a scene like that ever again.

Kids shouldn’t even be watching this show. Problem solved.
