First of all, great finish!
Secondly, wearing any brand-new shoes that are too small and haven't been properly broken-in for a long race is going to cause problems. I'd be curious to see how these would work if someone used a pair that actually fit properly and were broken-in.

I looked at your result 4 minutes into the video, and man.., you did very well.., you would be spectacular with a decent trail shoe (not even the best..., just a good one).. great video.., I just finished a timed ultra in GA.., with 3200 ft of gain.., and it was brutal... but I enjoyed it. great stuff as always

My first race ever was a 50 miler and on the way there my friend who was running with me (and who has done over a dozen Ultras) said, "don't worry, all you need is your shoes and your water and you'll be fine"
It was at that moment that I realized I had forgotten my shoes and we were 2 hours from home. So yeah, I ran a 50 miler in brand new shoes. Not Cortez's, but I did finish (and lose a toenail in the process). That was 2019 and I STILL have not ran an actual marathon to this day 😂
