A God's Limit [Genshin Impact]

So, I saw this comic and I KNEW I wanted to dub it right away. I love Hu Tao and Zhongli's dynamic so much, would absolutely love to see more interactions between these two (that little crumb of them watching the Lantern Rite together in the trailer was super cute!!!). Only problem was the fact that I wasn't sure who was speaking the lines that wasn't in the speech balloon, so I had to ask friends if it was Hu Tao or Zhongli. Some said Hu Tao, some said Zhongli, it was pretty much split. Then I thought, "Okay, what if I ask the artist instead?" So I went ahead and DM'ed them and... they actually forgot about it LMAO. They said it was up to anyone's interpretation. I was t h i s close to just having Zhongli say everything but then I saw that little Lantern Rite snippet of them together and thought "YOU KNOW WHAT. Let Hu Tao narrate this part. For extra ANGST because it's 2022 and WHY NOT?"

As his body began to shatter. He thought he would not feel fear at his last moment.

The corrosion was already done with the damage, he knew many things, but soon he forgot. He forgot his old friends, the memories they had with each other.

The more he forgot, the more broken he became inside. Many did not notice the subtle changes with Zhongli, but the ones that knew was careful to not let him know that they knew.

Childe began to make excuses that he was too busy to ask Zhongli to spar with him.
Traveler has been continuing to talk to him, before continuing on their journey.
Hu Tao continued to be playful, prankful around him. But the cracks she saw, wouldn't leave her mind.


Out of all the days, Traveler, the Qixing that could fight was away. Zhongli took out his spear, walked out the funeral home's door. Hu Tao tried to stop him. Zhongli knew Hu Tao had known who he truly is.

"As a god, although I may have died to many. But I must protect the home that they return to. That is, my.... as Zhongli a promise to upkeep."


As the enemies shattered and returned to ash. Hu Tao, looked up on him.

"I shouldn't had... let you see me like this."

No voice, no sound came out from Hu Tao's mouth. Just tears. She knew anyone, anything can die. That was the fate of anyone that was born into the world. She has seen many though her years as the head.

Zhongli smiles, as the cracks began to spread, exposing a beautiful amber color under.

"If Traveler asks... tell them... that Morax is finally going home. But Zhongli's home will always be there."

Hu Tao stood up, ran. Reaching her small hand to a shoulder so big, yet so thin despite the heavy weight he had carried over the hundreds and thousands of years.

Zhongli shattered, leaving no shape of him.

Hu Tao, just sat. Began to cry, ever so silently.
As she had lost someone that was like a brother, a father, another grandfather to her.



Somewhere in Teyvat, the other Archons, the Traveler sensed that Zhongli, Morax was no longer part of this world.

Wait if Zhongli dies won't his death be catastrophic? Being one of the oldest archon his death might wipe out almost if not all of Liyue and and beyond. Since the goddess of salt's death blast engulfed the entire domain into salt and turning all of her followers who were with her to salt statues.

okay I know that I've absorbed Genshin knowledge but this eludes me. what does this even MEAN.

Zhongli: I have to fake my death again so I could watch Hu Tao and the others from a far. I have done so much as Rex Lapis and Zhongli. It is time to see them grow on their own.
Hu Tao: Guess I fool Zhongli with my tear acting. You think I won't notice. If he really is dying, I would offer a discount for proper funeral and coffin. He is like a grandpa who want to watch people from a far. Now, I wonder how I should interact with his/her new identity when we meet again?

Paimon: Traveler, hurry! Quickly cook those fried egg.
Traveler: I don't think fried egg is enough. I am going to cook pancake, steak, grilled fish or better Mora Meat. Hey, maybe if we drag his body to one of those Seven Statue would revive him?
Paimon: Let go with those. Just in case, we should bring C6 Barbara and C6 Qiqi along with us.

I can imagine Hu Tao escorting Zhongli through that one domain and witnessing him reunite with Guizhong.

the look of shock and despair on hutao's face was because she probably thought that gods can't die (since she always suspected Zhongli to be an adepti) so I think the non bubble text was Hutao recalling one of Zhongli's many lessons and/or banter she had with him, so having Hutao narrate Zhongli's wisdom its very fitting and as for the last part, I think it was regret on Zhongli's part that he didn't want someone he cares for (since Zhongli has been involved with the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor and undoubtedly watched her grow up) to see him die right in front of her....

at least that's my interpretation when I read the original comic

It still warms my heart that Zgongli calls Hu Tao "Master Hu." it just sounds like he's indulging his niece
