By far one of the most famous push pulls was in the movie, JAWS. Also called the dolly/zoom, vertigo, or trombone effect this shot is accomplished by moving a dolly into a subject while zooming out the lens, always keeping the subject the same size in the frame. By doing this the background seems to change in size, while the subject remains the same.
