I have stage four ovarian cancer. I’ve been through 3 major surgeries
have to wear a ostomy bag because cancer got on my colon.
God has blessed me with great doctors….nurses ….really everyone that has been part of this journey has been wonderful. Cancer has a way of making one very humble.
I think the most amazing thing is before 2 of my surgeries the doctors prayed with me and for me.
Just truly blessed.

Having recently had surgery I must say being able to trust is easier when surgical staff is nice and caring.

In most hospitals, they don't care about the patients emotions. They may "repair" the bodies. But sometimes, they also hurt the souls. Nobody cares.
Thanks for educating people. I hope that doctors would listen to this too. And I hope, you could change their way of thinking about the impact (and responsability) they have on patients mental health!

When my son had a minor surgery, they were all really great. They had me with him all the way up to the point of going through the OR doors and his doctor was there already. Before he awoke, the anesthesiologist came to get me so I could be the first person my son saw. The anesthesiologist kept checking on us as my son was coming to. I definitely recognize the kindness in those gestures.

I’m so glad that we went to a private practice surgical specialist, because it was definitely a different experience than having a referral to someone else who will perform the surgery. 😊

I generally take a minute when we get into the room to confirm with the patient their identity, allergy status, and what we plan to do including site and side. Then I introduce them to their surgical tech and anyone who will help position them. I usually like to share a little bit about the role of the surgical technologist while I’m introducing them. And I remind them that they are the reason we are even at work so if they need anything at all, they aren’t interrupting if they tell us what they need.

When I went to my surgery, I was mentally so prepared, I felt no fear, no anxiety. I was relaxed, I nearly felt asleep waiting for my call.
Talking to the surgeon prior, a very nice lady, who explained everything, I just lied down and gave myself to their hands.
Surgery went smoothly, woke up back to those positive feelings. Post-surgery I barely had any pain and recovery was fast.
