Love this type of lesson Mark. I think it's definitely tailored for low handicaps or those who understand their swings really well. Will be watching this one over again in the future.

Been struggling with EE, handle high at impact, and divots starting on the toe. Now it’s perfect dollar bill divots and pure strikes. Thanks for all your videos.

I can now practice with numbers. Your content stands the test of time. Now I'm listening to the hack it out podcast. Keep it rolling Mark

An oldie but a goodie. Lots of simulator work has me 2 down PW, 1 UP 6iron, 2-3 UP 3 wood and 8+ UP driver!
I've not missed the ball (yet) but I have hit the ground up to a foot before the ball with 3 wood!!
Ive actually been trying the move you make to increase attack angle (ie more down) but to me it feels like I'm moving towards the target and I'm too much over the ball.
Your clear explanation shows I really need to reprogram myself to feel over the ball more - great stuff, thanks...

(PS feeling more over the ball also increases my swing speed by 2-3mph on 7 iron, its a win-win).

Came up on this "feeling" today by accident while trying to get in the right position during a practice backswing. During a 9 hole round, helped me to hit 6 GIR. Really good explanation of that feeling of left shoulder turning over the ball.

Wish you would do more of these technical types of discussions. Great video been a fan for years now!

This type of spine movement is entering the teaching realm of stack and tilt. Great video. Modern golf swings aren't moving off the ball as much 20 years ago.

Excellent. I appreciate how your vids explain the various feelings.

Mark, I've watched many of your videos and I think you explain things better than most people do. I haven't been playing golf for a year yet and I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of what I'm doing wrong and what I can do to fix my swing. I have a long way to go but your explanations have helped a lot thanks and keep up the good work.

A really good tip for people struggling with this, I myself like to point my left shoulder at the ball, I find this keeps me more over the ball creating a nice downward strike.

Made sense to me, I started hitting fat shots after seeing your vids on not getting into a negative spine angle at the too, I over compensated and maintained too much angle, causing the fat shots. Good video.

10 years later this is still the best lesson on attack angle.

Why couldn't I find this video 20 years ago!! Excellent!!! I only wish you were in NY for me to take lessons

Great video, Mark! Another great way to look at this is your transverse plane (hips), or plane that separates upper and lower body, stays as level as possible. People say to turn around your spine, which like you said is a great "thought", but really you want to turn your hips level. Which is what happens when you take the hip bend out in the back swing and forward swing.

Hi Mark, you mentioned that getting "behind" the ball helps you strike better drivers while staying "on top" of the ball helps you strike better irons. Can you use the "on top" of the ball movement with the driver and move the ball forward in your stance to get that positive angle of attack, essentially using the same type of spine angle movement for both driver and iron?

Mark, I really enjoy your technical videos! Going to watch this vid at least 1 more time!

Great video, it looks like the better shot is when your left shoulder comes under your chin whereas the other shot (hit on the up) is where the chin and shoulder are separated and the chin further back and away from the

Great explanation Mark! It's good to see some science around the "feel" of the golf swing. I love the numbers. Trackman is awesome and I drool over what it tells me. I really enjoyed the lesson about the subtle differences of AOA vs body bend. Keep it up!

Very interesting. The other instruction on You Tube almost universally teaches that a shallower angle of attack is better, and gives drills on how to achieve this. Yours is the first to mention that the more lofted the club, the steeper angle of attack you want (at least to a degree). Good to think about, as we try to figure out how best to strike the ball in different situations.

Mark, Ive been told I hit too much down on the ball (-8 deg with all clubs), which causes push slices because the club face hasn't closed enough due to strongly descending AOA. Can you please discuss why this happens and how to fix it? Great to see more of a focus on AOA. Technology has shown this has a major influence on ball flight, but it's not given the same amount of focus as plane and club face. Cheers.
