That rachet strap idea was something straight out of my dad's playbook when he was renovating my childhood home growing up. Love the ingenuity.

Nice deck. I no longer rely on a ledger board for structural integrity, only for stability. I put posts two or three feet from the house. I can tell you are a good carpenter. I would like to send you pictures of my three level deck, that I built all by myself.

Thanks for not over complicating the process here. It doesn't need to be as hard as many other videos make this seem.

That thing is built solid. Will be there for a long time. Great video, good production quality, great explanations. Really liked how you took the time to thoroughly explain each step. I was amazed you brute strengthed those 6x6 posts into place by yourself.

Great build! You sounded like Larry Haun “that’s the code” he would certainly appreciate the craftsmanship.

This is one beautiful deck here! I just saw your last "how to build a deck video" from 6 years ago on the general how-to for a single-story deck application and you're right, the overall process doesn't really change all that much between framing a traditional single story deck only 30" off the ground and framing a two story such as the one in this video. I liked how in the last video, the joists spanned away from the house, so that way you don't have to hack up the siding to reIy on a ledger board and go crazy about flashing to keep your house's subfloor system from rotting from an improper install. That's how I would do a single story deck 30 inches off the ground after watching that video. Spaced away from the house slightly. I like those that teach framing and be completely honest that weather or not you're framing a floor system for a house or an out door deck, the general construction and general rules of thumb with stick framing apply across the board. Larry Haun is a popular example that brought the 101 teachings of framing to light before the internet and both you and him always stress about checking your local building codes which is another plus. I'm finding the only real challenging part of stick framing and building anything is making sure everything is up to code which varies everywhere that AND 80% of construction is knowing how to handle the building material from what another large YouTuber Essential Craftsman is big on mentioning alot and as someone who's not in the trade it makes sense to me. Thank you for KISS (Keeping It Simple Stupid) as many others on this platform overcomplicate stick framing when it's unnecessary to do so! Also, at 12:56 I did notice some shiners there, so I figured I'd let you know since it's your personal build that you are going to live with for years to come. Thanks again!

Lord, I couldn't imagine living somewhere with a 42" frost line! Love southern summers! As always, phenomenal video man. Absolutely love your content. Love the new shop. Happy for you. Also, anyone immediately wish they had a building to put an elevated deck on??

Thanks for another great video. Must say I'm a bit jealous to see how easy it is to make holes in the ground where you live. Here, in Almería, Southern Spain, even with a digger it's very hard to go deeper than a few inches😬.

Hope you and your family, Utz included, have a great weekend !
