My dad used to say... If you don't like it... (leftovers.. whatever) then you aren't very hungry.

The grocery list segment brought back a memory. While shopping I found someone’s list in the store. It was written in beautiful penmanship and I assumed a woman wrote it. I imagined her sending her husband shopping with that list. Out of curiosity, I read it. At the end of a list of healthy well-balanced items, the writer had written “no cookies!” I smiled. 😊

Leftovers are GOLD!!

Leftovers mean you have at least one less meal to make.

I get really excited about re imagining leftovers!

My family had a bbq a couple of weekends ago and none of them wanted to take the left overs home, crazy imo! I took it all: meat, fish, and veg. Roughly chopped everything, gave it a good mix up and used it as a salad topper, with a bit of cheese and dressing it made the ultimate big dinner salad! Not wasting a single thing.

Congrats on retirement, Larry and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine! I will confess here that when I hear people say they have a spouse or kid who "hates leftovers" I feel myself bristle. Out of respect for your family-friendly audience I will not tell you my thoughts;, but suffice it to say, that when I was a young divorced mom, raising a beautiful boy alone years ago, my child never went hungry, never gave me a hard time about what was on the table, and we laughed a lot and enjoyed our times together in the kitchen making food. Now, in his post-Marine Corps days, he is managing a restaurant and I have an enormous amount of respect for his appreciation of using everything that is usable.

I even pack my kids lunch. School lunch is only $2.65, but I was 100% sure I could make 3 lunches for less than $8

When my daughter was at home I did "weird food week" on a regular basis. As there were three in our family we always ended up with lots of leftovers, as things are regularly sold in twos and fours at the supermarket.
I also used to make a game by putting savory leftovers on the kitchen table and sweet leftovers in a pile for my husband and daughter to challenge coming up with a meal each.
My daughter is 26 now and recently said how much she loved weird food week at home.

In germany we call it a "rum-fort-gericht" it means "around-gone-dish" everything that's hanging "around" an has to be "gone"....
For example: leftover potatos, onions and eggs. Put them in a pan, fry them an you will have a delicius meal. Same with leftover pasta: pasta, bacon, eggs & cheese. We love it❤

I was offered a clerical job in DC paying more than a public school teacher I Providence. I was driving a hand me down car with no AC. I shopped AA soon as the supermarket opened Saturday morning, so could get home to my airconditioned apartment. Each week I bought a loaf of raisin bread, and a package of beef bologna. I also bought a six pack of little cans of grapefruit juice. Sunday night I made 5 sandwiches and bagged them They went into the freezer along with the grapefruit juice. I put a frozen sandwich and a frozen can in a brown bag on my way out the door. By lunch time the sandwich had thawed; by mid afternoon the juice had thawed to a cold drink.

I watch the custodian at my job, walk to an expensive deli every day for breakfast and lunch. He knows I collect bottles and cans that I recycle. He gives me two or three big bags of bottles for me to recycle every other week or so…I’ve asked him if he wouldn’t want to keep them to recycle them himself. He said he can’t be bothered to do that so, I guess it works out for me because I get 10 dollars or more out of what he gives me!

I worked in a busy school for many years. The microwave was not clean and you basically had to line up to use it. So I purchased a single serving crock pot lunch warmer. I plugged it in at morning recess and by lunch it was perfectly heated and ready to eat. Great tip for leftovers.

Been bringing my lunch for years! Mostly leftovers. If I don't have leftovers I always have crackers, peanut butter, fruit, nuts, etc.

When I was a kid my mom would cook all day on Sunday after church of course. She was prepped meals for the whole week so when we got home around 6 we just heat and eat. Now I prep all my breakfasts lunch and dinners for the the week. I put them in different color dividing, so I know that red is for breakfast blue is for lunch is purple and black for dinner. This works for me.

Was driving home, besides the road a chair with 6 cans of Campbell's tomato soup. You bet I stopped and got them.

I have a dumpster I check recently it had just under 500 cans of mixed vegetables and lima beans. I went home got ladders and lumped them home. Best buy date dec 2024. Nope not going to eat them before then but I have given cases of them to friends and family. Mom makes my puppy brothers food she used a lot of can goods to feed him. Mom was spending $60 a month for a little 20lb dog. It takes some work but we like to do things together and we get the work done.

I keep watching this economy and every quarter prices raise. I've got a pretty good cash of can goods, liquor, wine, seasoning, fish hooks, pellets, 22lr ammo, propane, hand sanitizer for fuel. Have big gun too some ammo for it but rarely do we need a 7.62X54R but I have one. Squirrel, rabbit, wild pig, small birds are easy meals. We go fishing and that's the best tasting food around catfish are true blessing fish.

It's hard to get a lunch out for less than $10 these days.

When I was raising my sons, once a week or so, we'd have a "CORD" day, meaning "Clean Out Refrigerator Day", when we ate all leftovers and extra bits of food, sometimes prepared differently, like in sandwiches or soups. The next day would be for grocery shopping.

I agree with left over for lunch the next day, 10 $ a day for lunch 50 a week 200 a month that’s money in your pocket. You could save up for a trip at the end of the year 😊

We called that left over meal "Root hog." You go root around the kitchen and help yourself. Another simple one was "Nibble Dinner" which was assorted finger foods, which could include chunks of leftover meat, cheese, nuts, olives, etc.

I was one who used to hate leftovers, as did my then hisband. Fast forward several years, and I now love and rely upon my leftovers! They're my (sorta free) work lunches.

I always brought my lunch when I was working. No worrying about getting sick from restaurant food. Zero food waste by eating leftovers also.

One of the biggest savings for me recently is just related to leisure activities. In the spring, you can do so much for free or cheap. Going to the park, Going to the farmers market for some local veg, making a picnic instead of going out to eat. Im loving it.
