In this video, I explain how fluency develops, and share my story of the discoveries that helped me understand fluency. Comprehensible input is a popular term for what's needed to develop understanding in a language. But over 20 years of teaching and learning languages, I found that the goal of learning is really the elimination of doubt, since it's doubts about a language that really stop you from speaking. If your goal is fluency, this video will show how the fastest way to achieve English speaking success. :)

To overcome doubt is to practice, understanding grammar, thinking in English without translating it into one’s native language.

Usually, I can’t catch your live videos, because they are in the middle of the night, over here…😅
But I’m so excited to discovering a new one while just awaked.🤩
I’m so happy you’re back and hopefully you’ll be much better in a few days.
You’re brave to come here if you’re not fully recovered. Take care of this beautiful voice! You and we need it so much! 🤗😍

I know three languages, one native and two foreign. I'm trying to learn English. I have always used your method. First you have to communicate, then you can refine it by practicing, reading books, talking a lot, listening to others talk. Never used grammar. But my daughter who studied English in school, she always says I have to start with grammar. It is not true.

English is not my first language, and it took me many long years to get fluent (although we are never 100% fluent, even being a native, as there are idioms and expressions that are used in specific areas or by different generations and we will not understand them, unless we get exposed to them for many times, as it was said on the video - or if someone explains them to us). But, yes, I assure that this associative methods are the ones more effective.

Is "fluency" and "native-like"ness different?
I have seen lots of non-Japanese people speaking Japanese fluently and confidently. I can tell they are not native Japanese.
