Well, of course no one can get fluent with Duolingo. They’re too busy trying to save their families’ lives.

Duolingo introduces you to the language. You have to do more outside of it to become fluent

It’s not just about memorizing the phrases that they gave you. Yes, the phrases may seem random, but it also helps you memorize words like she he man woman and then you can combine those into a sentence

Tbh constant language exposure plus duolingo is probably the best way to learn a new language

I mean, I'm sure that yelling "Oh nein! Wo ist die maus!" Should get me through most social interactions just fine.

Ive gone from knowing zero spanish to actually watching shows and understanding when people talk in just a hundred days. But it is ten thousand times better than how i learned arabic in school. Imo spanish is one of their better courses. And while you won’t be fluent its a great place to start and test your skills so you have an easier time in a class. I also have to mention i watch a lot of spanish shows and i have always been generally good at languages. Duolingo is the best app out there honestly

That's why I use Duolingo along with other things, like when I learn a new language I start with 5 units of Duolingo, then I start searching for songs and shows that uses that language, I start repeating after them, making sure that I look for the translation, after that I start trying to read kid's books moving my way up to the next age category.

Ofc I'd be watching TikTok videos abt that language and of people that speaks it, and try to focus on what they're saying and how're they pronouncing it.

Duolingo even recommends if you want to be fluent, speak with people in that language or watch movies and tv shows in that language

Experts used to think it takes 5-7 years to achieve fluency in a language, now we know it takes longer.

Listen I believe that after you have an idea and how to use the words/ phrases correctly, you can start to understand more for example while watching videos with the foreign language

Basically, to achieve the fluency, expand your learning process

I like How Duolingo keeps you involved in the broader context of learning languages. It’s a great tool of many

It feels like it would help if you were to write down what doulingo was saying and practice using that, as someone who doesn’t know anything about Chinese, doulingo is really helping me with figuring out words how to say them properly how to write them correctly etc

Duolingo is, and should be treated as, an addition to many other things that should be done every single day in the process of learning a language.

Why does everyone care about “fluency” so much? You don’t have to know every word in the language to know how to go about your day just fine, and a duolingo course will teach you enough vocabulary and also get you enough of a feel for the grammar for you to be able to do just fine
