Silica gel packets are common in most items we unbox, but what do they do? It says pretty clearly not to eat them, so how else can they be reused around the house?

The little packs of desiccant are included in boxes to absorb moisture, so they can also be used in small spaces to keep humidity low (and therefore prolong the life of some common household products susceptible to mold or water-based decay).

Put one in a jar of silica gel packets to keep the silica gel packets dry.

I reuse them in my jewelry box to prevent tarnish and discoloration particularly of gold plated metals. I place them in storage bins with holiday decorations that have metallic trim. I purchase special non reusable silica capsules for use with spices that are prone to clumping. The capsules are safer to use with food than the paper packets.

It's my understanding that you should not use them with food, and certainly not pressed right up with the raw food. Also that they need to be reheated once they are saturated or they are not useful. So these are caveats, perhaps, to this video.

I think the temperature should be around 135 degrees (C), unless you were referring to Fahrenheit, which hardly anyone uses these days!

I don't understand how could a silica gel works in plastic packaging.... I understand if it has a paper like packaging but plastic? How?

Just make sure you put them in a dry container plus it's best to separate them to what they are used for. If you found them in a shoe box don't use them with food.

For people in the real world who use proper units of measurement ... 200 Fahrenheit is roughly equal to ~ 90 dec Celsius. * sigh *
