0:49 I think, it’s hot, because you came in the dry season. That’s why there also aren’t many mosquitoes. The big rainy season (May-mid August) is definitely not this hot, but it is humid. The “coldest” season in Suriname is the small rainy season (mid November-end of Januari), where temperatures can drop too 16 -17 degrees Celsius at night and early morning and the highest temperature during that season is around 27/28 degrees. The small dry season is also not as hot as this one.

EDIT: So do carry the bug spray when come in the rainy season or if you stay in rural or jungle areas too.
6:12 sanitary in Suriname is a very important issue. Even before you can open a cafe, restaurant, bar etc…the government has many rules regarding sanitation and the checks the place needs to undergo. If you don’t do it the BOG (a Surinamese version of the cdc) will close your business and post pictures of how unsanitary it was on social media…and while they don’t mention the restaurants, Surinamese people will always figure out which restaurant it is and once you re-open, it’ll take some time to recover from it; some never recover from it and people never eat there anymore. So no place wants to undergo that level of shame, so they keep it very clean.

I'm studying the Dutch language through Duolingo and a private tutor. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences in Suriname. This video helped me better understand a little about a Dutch history lesson in Duolingo.

As a woman I walked alone around the city in Paramaribo. (My pob). Also in the more rural parts. Most people in Surinam are just curious and like to have a small talk. Of course there is crime. Don’t walk around with luxury items. Don’t show that you have money or wear expensive jewelry. But the same goes for Amsterdam, where I live. Over here people get robbed all the time. Edit: And that happens mostly in the wealthier areas 😉 because the thieves know where to go for the big bags.

2 things that you said in your video that wasnt accurate was 100usd a night hotel, were did you go because i never saw a hotel that expensive yet in suriname and for food, 10usd meal here i cant even finish it. The only meal you can buy at the price of 15 tot 45usd is steak and pastas at expensive restaurants
