The Messenger

We all remember the dreadful day
When a messenger came our way
And brought us some awful news
We would quickly decide
To bury him alive
And let nature do the rest

And the seasons would pass
Our thoughts were made of glass
So prone to finally breaking
And when reality struck
We were suddenly out of luck
And the words of the messenger came true

So to put out our burning fire
And get rid of our desire
We had to make some decisions
We would yearn for tomorrow
When we wouldn’t have such sorrow
But tomorrow would be even worse

So next year will be better
Said the messenger’s letter
But only if we keep on trying
Let’s respect each other’s lives
Before loneliness arrives
And stays with us forever

And our pain then only grew
Our relief will be overdue
When it comes it will be late
And the messenger’s words
Would then hit us like swords
“Unity will be the only answer”

And our ears will then listen
Our brains will give permission
To our souls to act more purely
And the crisis will be averted
All the people will be alerted
All our lives will be simpler

But some people won’t comply
A lot of leaders will be blind
They will put wealth over lives
And the poor will pay the price
For the defiance of the advice
That the messenger gave us back then

So next time we’re in trouble
Next time we are seeing double
We’d better act like we should
Our messenger will be there
We must not then shoot him dead
We must listen and understand
