One of two things will happen for her; either she'll go broke and beg her family for help and they'll call her a loser and let her go out on the streets, or they'll let her move in as a live-in maid and force her to cook and clean all while telling her she's a failure and how they're doing her a favor letting her slave away for them because she lost her job.

Ex was standing 10 toes down on the toxicity in the first story. Even put him out. But, the moment they do what she knew they would do, she runs crying to him. Trauma or no trauma, actions have consequences. Many people have trauma, doesn't give them immunity

She herself is an abuser at this point. She knows how horrible her family is, but she feeds her BF and friends to them. She knew all her accusations against OP were untrue, she just didn't care. Anyone who tries to care about her is just another baby she can throw to the parental wolves to save herself. She'll sacrifice her actual children in the same way, someday. The fact that OP "loves" her, but his first reaction on getting away from her is relief and happiness says it all.

With this level of control the family has, and delusion from trauma, I wonder if the therapy visits are even real

I knew a girl who basically spiraled like this, she managed to turn her life around but it was a very similar scenario to OP's ex, last time I talked to her after she got some form of recovery that she said that something I (and some other things said by others) was a shock to the system that she needed to actually change. When I was breaking off friendship with her I knew that how she was behaving and being treated was going to kill her so one of the last things I said to her before leaving was;

"I'll give it six months before I start looking for your name in the obituaries."

Apparently she said it was like getting splashed with ice water or something, especially when this happened when we were both in our early/mid 20s. We may never be friends again, but I'm glad she worked for a better life. I can only hope that OP's ex manages to get out before OP has to see their name in an obituary, but its not OP's job to save them.

The fact that the ex-fiance's friends refused to go help her with her family says so much about how done everyone is trying to help her. She's gonna have to hit rock bottom unfortunately. Hope she can get out of that dynamic one day.

The problem is, she needs to get angry. But that isn't going to happen because she wants her family's love and acceptance more. What's the family going to do now that she has lost her job? She can't give them any more money, food is going to be scarce, etc... How sad.

I wonder, if he'd asked her how hard her future children would have to work for her to love them, what she would have said?

Either she says they'd have to work themselves to the bone (like she does for her parents), and give her all their money (like she does), in which case she's been turned to pure poison and should never have kids.
Or she says that of course she'll love them unconditionally, in which case the question is why they would deserve that and she doesn't.

Am really curious which way that question would have gone.

I think of this like a gas leak, notice it early you can escape easy, but if you suffer it for too long it messes up your mental state and strength making it near impossible to escape. You will leave or you will suffocate.

The updates broke my heart. To seem to grasp the change she needed, only to fall right back into the same quagmire… just heartbreaking.

OP should have asked her why she called him in a panic to protect her from her family if they were so wonderful. He predicted she’d do it, and she did. Total panic on her part. If OP is the problem, how was he also the solution?

The only person you can change or save is yourself. It's sad, but she doesn't want to leave this toxicity. Leaving is the only option. The therapist needs to be fired immediately also

Saw this on Lost Genre's channel. I lost all sympathy for the ex once she threw out OP for daring to make sense. She is just as much of a user and abuser as her wretched bio-units. All OP can do is walk away. She has chosen self-destruction.
